As long as it wasn't a "F", that's OK.

As with many things it seems, I've been inattentive Trig. It wasn't an F, but as interest would say, I don't know why   :winkextra:

As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Now the next question is .... will Aussie Post do it all again in 2020 with the exact same coins as 2019? The Royal Mint did it with their 10p Alphabet coins. They put them out in 2018 and again in 2019.

I suspect they will as Australia Post definitely sparked up some sales and interest in some of the crap they sell in their Post Offices... Time will tell.

I certainly hope they don't. :(

While I like the coins (now) and learnt a lot about Australia (strange stuff you are eating downunder :winkextra:  ) I certainly hope they won't do it again.

In the meantime, I am very curious about the mintage numbers for these coins. Of course, it will be months before we'll know them.

Triggersmob

Ralf, you have sauerkraut and you think we eat strange stuff. :)
OK, I had kanga bangas over the weekend, for Australia Day.

Yeah, sauerkraut can be strange to foreigners. So, this point goes to you

Sauerkraut is good. And I was a grown up before I ever tried it.
Kimchi too.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Probably - we got five years of newspaper coins didn't we?

I think it was four, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018. For some reason they stopped in 2019.

Just a question about these alphabet coins that were for sale at $3.00 each individually packaged.
Were they in the mintage figures for the UNC ones or are they classified as circulated coins.
Our local post office has been pulling them out of their single packaging and putting them in the tills

There are mintage figures for these?
I thought they were "special order" coins like Possum Magic, Mr Squiggle and the Olympic $2 series and RAM didn't release data on how many minted. Not considered circulating coins as far as RAM was concerned.

thanks gweidion for that information.

The mintage figures for these ''special order coins'' can usually be found in the RAM's annual reports. But you need to look deep into the reports.
For example, the Mr Squiggle coins had a mintage of 2.000.000 each. Found in Appendix D ''collector coin production'' of the 2018 report.

Therefore, the figures for the Alphabet coins should eventually show up in a future annual report.

I figured they would be in annual reports. They just don't release them on their website, only exception being the 2012 Red poppy which was a special order to make money for the RSL.
Have you managed to turn up any more special order mintage figures out of the annual reports?
It is always nice to see mintage figures.
Thanks for any info.

Pedro

Yes, most commonly the mintages for the special programs are included in the Appendix D (Collector Coin Production) section of RAM Annual Reports.

RAM 2015/16 Olympic coins mintages at page 105 - 2m for each of the Olympic colour & the Paralympic coins.

RAM 2016/17 Possum Magic page 107 (4.8m across the 3 weeks - 2m for weeks 1 & 3 and 800,000 for week 2). There is a bit of a question mark there as the commentary within the 2017/18 Annual report indicates the mintage as approximately 6m (p14). Perhaps the week 2 number was not correct?

Unless I've missed it along the way the only reference I have noted for the 2018 Commonwealth Games issues is in the commentary also on page 14 of that report which indicates a total mintage of approx 8m.

RAM 2018/19 Mr. Squiggle page 107 - 2m for each week & Wallabies 2m page 108.
