Have just received the book and it is quite hefty - round about a Kilo

Have had a quick look and there seems to be a lot of information - for me not a light read as my knowledge is very basic on the matter

Might just have to get the other volumes when they come out

Anyone else have a copy and what do you think about it?

Mister T

I haven't got it yet but probably will - I think it was advertised as being bound but with a possible wiro-bound version in future? I think the wiro-binding is better for long-term use.

Mine is hard bound with no dust cover

It was stated in Coin & banknote that the will be a soft bound release in the near future

I'm going for hard bound for my reference collection. Might also get the soft version for day to day use.

I got my 2 books today. 3D and 6D... 6D is a soft cover that comes with a CD with 100's of photos... well worth it... It would  take me a few weeks to months to absorb all the information...
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

Didn't know about the 6D book - thought it was still to be released - will have to get back to him and secure a copy

I'm way behind you in trying to absorb all the info :scratch_one-s_head:    Just have to make a start

Re the 3d book, if you want a break down of what is in it before buying,  grab your June copy of CAB, I did a review on page 12.
All Briggs books are library standard reference books and this is no exception.
If you are interested in pre decimal coins you simply need the Briggs books to be up to date.

Lol. Don't get fooled by the word "absorb" ... it would take a lot longer for me to do that properly. But let me tell you these are what I called books. Top job by Dr Briggs

Fred
Thanks for the heads up - that's where I first got onto the book reading your review

Am already on the trail for the rest - just awaiting a reply from Dr Briggs

Again thanks

Yes, I received my 6d book, its a soft cover version of 240 pages and the CD has about 200 pages of images. I'll do a review and submit to CAB but that will take a while. The 6d book maintains the standard of the 3d book containing much sideways information about coin manufacture and Dr Briggs has  put in more detail about the Munitions Dept. That arm of the government had a lot more to do with coin  making than coin collectors let alone the trade know about. The munitions dept had far more expertise in coin making than the Mint and why not as they had the best machinery, scientists, tradesmen and engineers from all walks of life for the war time effort and later on. I'm in no position to do any research so rely on experts like Dr Briggs to update me.

Cockatoo Coins

Where can you pick these up from? I wouldn't mind a set for the library
