Those locos above were on the TV program a few weeks ago.

One of the drivers collected a heap of old loco's and drove them up to Goulburn for a historical display of some sort.

Fantastic old loco's....I used to love the smell of the old coal burners......pity they are oil burners now...not the same smell.

Nice pic uni. A little vague, but I think the maroon and silver loco is a preserved G.M. 2 stroke powered Commonwealth Railways loco which originally operated out of South Australia.

The blue and yellow loco is an ex NSWGR Alco 4 stroke powered 44 class painted in it's private owner colour scheme. I cut my teeth on these, and in normal service as I knew them they were originally painted in the indian red and yellow livery of the 42 class at left of picture.

The loco at the extreme right of picture is an ex State or Federal owned G.M. Not sure about the class, but very similar to the first two locos on the left, and operated in most States under the their allocated designation. It's all decked out in its private livery colour scheme which puzzled me because I know I've seen those colours before.   it's the loco on the home page of Australian Modeller, the outlet for Auscision Models  https://www.australianmodeller.com.au/

Nice pics uni. 4306 grabbed my eye in particular, I carried out maintenance on it many times, they only made six of them.

For anyone interested in the model form of Australian outline, most of what ran in the last 100+ years is now available to the hobbyist, but is expensive.

As a kid in the sixties I remember drooling over the brass oversees outline locos on the shelf at Hobbyco when on a family holiday to Sydney, they were way out of the average families reach, and thinking about it now, some were the price of a second hand at that time.

In the eighties ready to run Australian outline started to appear more regularly with a few plastic models produced by Lima starting to hit the shelves, as well as from the odd local company such as Powerline, but other than these most of the Aussie outline were in kit form. Local outline in brass was also available then but still expensive.

By the mid to late nineties high class detail plastic models in Aussie outline started to appear, they were much cheaper than brass and better detailed, with a constantly improving trend continuing to today.

Of course nearly everything is produced in China, and is reflected in the prices, a high detail plastic model with a DCC sound chip installed costing what the best of brass did over thirty years ago in the eighties and before.

 :) Hope that wasn't too boring  :)

:laugh2: .... Nah, definitely not boring Auto ..... I watched a bit of American Pickers on 7 mate last night and they had this bloke who was mad keen on electric fans. I was in awe of his knowledge on the subject, not to mention his collection of goodies.

autocoupler

Yeah, I saw that episode, he sure was on the ball with all the technical info. I know a bloke who collected bottle tops, only problem was they were all the same, XXXX twist tops, and that would be me

Nice photo uni, it takes me back to 1970 when a mate and I explored the possibility of doing the Perth and back thing on our holiday passes. Only problem was that employees travelling with a holiday pass had to go into a ballot when wanting to travel on the I.P. We were both successful for the forward journey, he made the return journey and I missed out, so in the end we didn't go. Buuuut, the Wife and I are doing the Ghan in a few months  :yahoo:
