am i missing something ,  worn circulated round 50 cent pieces are roughly 1/3 of an ounce of silver , which at around $22 an ounce makes them worth a maximum of $7.50 each , then why would dumb ebay buyers pat around $10 to $ 12 each for them , am i missing something or are the buyers morons for paying nearly 50 % above spot price

I usually pay that much for UNC examples that eventually grade MS64 or 65.Some collectors probably think
they are buying unc coins .There can't be any other explanation unless they are just are unable to tell the
difference or just have more money than sense

I can't really see what's wrong here. With the current Perth Mint bid price of $21.54, this equates to a silver value of $8.07, taking into account ebay / paypal fees of say 11% that would add another dollar. So for the seller just to be square and sell at spot it's $9.07 a coin. Surely the seller wants to make something ...... so at $10 or $12 they make $3 max. That's not a lot for the time involved in taking photos, listing, packaging and posting the coin. Sure, if there are higher grade coins on offer for the same price then the buyer would be crazy not to buy them instead.

i was saying there are cheaper ways of buying silver bullion and after all circulated round 50 cents are silver bullion ONLY , the buyers are the ones paying too much, whatever the seller makes if of no consecquence to the buyer who is paying way above spot price for bullion

I'm thinking that the buyers may not be silver investors but perhaps novice collectors filling the gaps in their collections or parents / relatives making up starter sets for their kin. There's not many places where you can buy a single 1966 50c round apart from a bricks & motar dealer or ebay, so if you're like me and out in the sticks then the only place would be ebay.

I just don't like people who, for "whatever reason", do something being referred to as morons or having a brain the size of a pea. Each to their own I guess.

Yep. Considering any form of collecting/investing is based on the "greater fool" theory, we are all fools to be playing this game.

I dont think i am a fool , even if i dont make a dollar out of my coins, i know that i will leave a bbit of something to my kids whereas if i did not save them then i would not have them to pass on , and i know it is a big supprise to receive something from a will , all people, kids or adults ,love that joy in memory of a love one that has passed .
take care because we care ..

I always have a laugh when passing bullion 1966 50c in antique or collectable shops and they are asking $25 each. They must sell some to keep asking that price. Perhaps nostalgia.

I'm with Uni here :ok:
If someone wants  a single round 50c for his/her collection then getting a reasonable one for $10-$15 is NOT the act of a Moron at all.
Try getting a reasonable round 50c from a dealer at spot, Good luck with that idea.

Watch out for packaged versions of this coin that certain dealers create and then advertise for over $30 per coin in unprestine condition
