QuoteHopefully the coins dont smell as bad as the place Jeff.
After a while it's "what smell?" as you become conditioned.
  • A few side benefits;
  • Free underfloor heating (maybe not so good in summer)
  • Free hot water from a well in your back yard
  • Cook your meal in your well
  • Hot and cold running water in Lake Taupo (just take a few steps)
  • Free mud for facial packs! (smell included)!
We visited the thermal pools and noticed the staff take canned beans etc. put them in a string bag and suspend in a pool to heat lunch.:yahoo:

I found much of Rotarua to not smell but thwere were certain patches down wind from the thermal parks that really had a pong.

The 1965 florin has a very low mintage from memory but is still very affordable. Yours is gorgeous PPH!!! If it was an Australian coin there would probably be much more interest. The value for an Australian coin with a comparable mintage would be quite high.

One of the thing i enjoyed most about New Zealand's coins was the circulating 'copper' 10c. Being a copper fan and being too young to remember 1c and 2c coins circulating in Australia it was nice.

The 1935 3d. is actually a very scarce coin.

I agree. I really miss the copper coins. They look so good when in uncirculated condition......the only down side being they look so ugly when they are toned.
Hopefully when our coinage gets updated we'll have a copper 10 cent too.

The copper 10 ¢ are actually copper coated steel. 20¢ and 50¢ are nickel coated steel.
If you drop any you can retrieve them with a magnet.

Here is one of my 'across the ditch' coins. Probably my favourite. Can the forum experts give me some idea on a grade? I'll try for some better scans/pics later. Thanks! :icon_e_wink:

Its really impossible to grade it from those pictures, so much depends on the details around the beard which are too unclear at the moment. It doesnt appear to be damaged though and there doesnt seem to be significant wear so. Regardless its a very low mintage coin and even really really crappy ones are worth quite a bit.

This apears to have been harshly cleaned, so whatever grade it is,it has to be discounted IMHO

Trout is right it looks cleaned prett harsh. The reverse has less wear than the obverse, perhaps VF overall. Even though its cleaned it would be nearing the $100 mark i reckon.

I only have a few NZ coins and I like the pennys the best:good:
i wouldn't mind getting a set of the pennys together.
Are there any ridiculessly hard ( like the 1930 Aus ) to get coins ?

No theyre not that hard trout. I sell full sets in a push in style album for $25 + postage. PM me if you want one. The key date is the 1956 with the strapless obverse. The sets i have only have the normal 1956 but i could put a strapless in for a bit more if you wanted.
