There is a new coin determination release out:
https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2017L00953

They are not easy to read -- at least for me :blush:  Anyways, according to my take there are four coins mentioned -- two 50 Cent, one 1 Dollar and one 2 Dollar -- that might be ''commemorative circulation'' coins. What does the community here think? Will this be coins for actual circulation?
I am particularly doubtful about the two 50c. I am pretty certain the $1 and $2 will be cc.

Here the coins in question:

22 (50 Cent)
Reverse
R14

A design consisting of:

(a) a representation of a 38-class locomotive bearing the number "38" and "01", a coal cart and a passenger carriage on railway tracks; and

(b) positioned below the railway tracks, a series of green and yellow curved stripes; and

(c) a circle, partially obscured by that locomotive and by a representation of steam emitting from that locomotive; and

(c) the following:

              (i)     "3801";

            (ii)     "STEAM LOCOMOTIVE";

           (iii)     "1943 – 2018";

          (iv)     a stylised representation of the designer's initials "AB".

R15

A design consisting of:

(a)  in the centre, a representation of a rosemary flower enclosed by 4 concentric circles; and

(b)  superimposed on the concentric circles, a coloured representation of a rosemary wreath, including 6 rosemary flowers; and

(c)   surrounding the concentric circles, a rosemary wreath intertwined with a ribbon and the word "Remembrance"; and

(d)  a circular border; and

(e)   the following:

              (i)     "TWO DOLLARS";

            (ii)     the designer's initials "AS".

25
Reverse
R17

A design consisting of:

(a)  a horizontal line and a central circle; and

(b)  above that horizontal line, and partially obscuring that circle, a representation of 3 poppy flowers; and

(c)   below that horizontal line, and positioned inside that circle, an ornamental pattern containing the following:

              (i)     a series of metal cartridges pointing down and presented in 2 row; and

            (ii)     a series of metal cartridges pointing up and presented in a row; and

(d)  a circular border; and

(e)   the following:

              (i)     "ARMISTICE CENTENARY";

            (ii)     "1918 - 2018";

           (iii)     "ONE DOLLAR";

          (iv)     the designer's initials "AS".

My opinion is this:

22 Definitely NCLT
23 Definitely circulating
25 Not enough information
26 Probably NCLT

I agree.

Ralf, which ever ones go into circulation, you know I will
save you a couple of each. Have to chip away at what I
owe you. :)

I know :good:

I find these determinations always pretty interesting. It appears my scepticism towards the two 50Cent being cc seems to be shared by the experts here. The $1 is indeed a tougher case. I'm leaning towards cc because the ARMISTICE CENTENARY is definitely worth a cc. But, of course, there is also the last of ANZAC Dollars which should be issued in 2018.
Well, we'll see what will happen...

Hercules

Here's my reasoning:

22 Is a depiction of a train, which doesn't seem noteworthy enough to be placed in circulation. It also has colour on it, and the mint hasn't released any coloured 50c coins into circulation yet.

23 Is a Remembrance Day coin, with specifications similar to other circulating coins released on Remembrance Day. Because this coin comes in both mintmarked and non-mintmarked versions, it is obvious that they are going to have separate distribution channels. Like other coloured $2 coins, I believe that #23 will be the circulating release and #24 will be the carded collector's edition.

25 Is another ANZAC theme, which is certainly noteworthy enough to be released into circulation. Although it has similar specifications to other circulating ANZAC coins, there are many other uncoloured ANZAC dollars that were never released into circulation, so it's hard to tell what the mint has in mind for this coin. Keep in mind that there are already two different circulating ANZAC coins dated 2017, and I would have expected the mint to use a different denomination, like the 50c, if they were determined to circulate another ANZAC coin this year.

26 Is a royal theme, most of which are NCLT. However, a small number of royal-themed coins have been circulated, including the Charles & Diana Wedding 50c in 1981, the Queen's Silver Jubilee 50c in 1977, the Queen's Royal Visit 50c in 2000, the Will and Kate Wedding 20c in 2011, and the Queen's Coronation Diamond Jubilee $2 in 2013. Most of these are 50c coins without any colour, so although I doubt this coin is noteworthy enough to be circulated, I can't completely rule it out.

The way I read this is they will all have the Canberra Mint mark so they will all be Commemoratives and not circulating designs.
None of our circulating decimal coins have a Mint mark, This is reserved for  Commemoratives only :ok:

I don't know where you got that idea from. The currency determination says nothing about a mintmark on numbers 22, 23, 25 or 26. Only 24 has a mintmark, so the rest are all fair game for circulation. :ok:

Hello fellow coin collectors.
I just did some browsing and found a new Currency Determination.

https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2017L01089

As always, I am interested which of these coins are intended for circulation. For obvious reasons only items 1 to 8 are possible cc (circulation commemorative).

R1 looks to be like a likely cc for 2017

For 2018 (?)

R2, R3 and R4 look like coloured $2 -- possible cc?
R5, R6, R7 and R8 $1 -- possible cc?

What are you thoughts?

Hercules

R2 - R4 look suspiciously like another Woollies giveaway.

Yes, that was my first thought, too.

Wondering about the $1 coins though. Perhaps, a set like the Possum Magic one?

That's what I was thinking, but I don't want to talk too soon in case I get it wrong. ;)

This coin (see attached graphic)  is part of the RAM's 2018 Six Coin Year Set.

Does that mean it will also be issued into general circulation?

The same questions was asked on Instagram and no it will not be circulating according to reply from RAM.

Thanks for the information. Very interesting. I think the ARMISTICE CENTENARY certainly deserves a circulation commemorative. Perhaps, the RAM will make a $2 cc instead? Time will tell.

(By the way, I am not on Instagram. If I were to visit all the presently relevant social media sites I wouldn't have time for anything else).
