Fake notes are doing the rounds again. A supposedly dodgy 100 has turned up in North Queensland.
This is the image and serial number that was reported.

Can also confirm fake $50's are around as well. Had one in my wallet for about a week, amongst some other 50's. Pretty sure it came out of an atm at a shopping centre. Give away was the small piece missing from it. Noticed it when I went to use it at the post office. Got it home and gave it the old rip test and sure enough it torn pretty easily.

I am still looking for one for my counterfeit collection.

Have not found any in Brisbane as yet.

It was pretty hard to spot, if it wasn't for the missing piece I probably would have passed it on myself. Only a very close inspection of the window area and later the tearing, gave it up as a dodgy. Will post a pic when I get a sec. It's gone into my study pieces collection for the moment.

I heard on the news today, that some counterfeit $50 notes have been found in Tasmania.

The $100 is obviously a fake, because no $100 notes were made in 2012, and those that were made in other years never began with a "V". ;)

What do the fakes feel like? What are they made out of?

G'day Eric,
the 50 is maybe a bit thinner, other than for the tear I would have passed it on. It appears to be made of some type of  plastic.

Hercules

I can't wait till they bring out the new 50. Our notes are getting much too easy to counterfeit.

Unicorn

That's a beaut G. :good: I wouldn't have picked it. Does it have the 50's in the clear window?

gnome

That one did, Uni,:) like I say if it hadn't been for the damage to it, I would have handed it over at the post office, and had my dial on the nightly news 1/2 hour later. :)

Thanks for that, Barry :)

Yes, thanks Barry, I haven't looked at that page in full before. I had no idea about the UV markers, must get a light one day.

I wonder how they did the 50 markers on the clear window G. Obviously a pretty advanced crew. Does your's have the coat of arms?
