Ok we have had heaps of threads about dodgy sellers and the like how about posting about your Positive eBay experiences here :ok:

I recently sold a gold coin and I inadvertently sent 2 different gold coins to the buyer by mistake, Yes I know it was a stupid thing to do But as you get older "Stuff Happens"

I got a phone call from the buyer as I put my phone number on the pre paid plastic packaging from the post office and She informed me that I had sent the extra coin and wanted to know how to send it back :yahoo:
The postage would cost her $8.60 so I sent her $20 via PayPal to cover the postage and her trouble to post the coin back to me.
This buyer could of easily kept the coin and there was absolutely nothing I could have done about it, I probably wouldn't even have known where it went anyway.

Ebay is NOT all bad and there are some really nice people that buy and sell there and this is a pretty good example of this :good:

Wouldn't that make your overall  experience with eBay a positive one?
And as far as "Getting Lucky" I personally don't think that is the case  with my recent ***k up.
I tend to think that the Majority of people that trade on eBay are honest, It is just the minority of scam artists and the ill informed that "spoil" the experience.

I have just bought three gold coins from a dealer on Ebay.   Lets hope there are no problems with the trade.

Not strictly on topic but a similar circumstance, albeit in the negative. I recently purchased a coin through one of the major auction houses, unfortunately, they sent me a coin that belonged to someone else. When I rang them they said the other party had also made contact wanting to know where their coin was, but further enquiries by the auction house had not been able to locate my coin.

I returned the coin sent to me in error, and received a full refund, but my coin never did surface again. Hmmmm....no doubt the auction house has a fair idea where it is,  they just can't prove it.

Anyhow, to whoever does have it, karma has a habit of making the necessary life adjustments :diablo:

my coin dealer once got a lot in the post and the coin that had the value was not in the parcel
he had been to the viewing and had handled the missing coin
he did warn the auction house (as he had a long standing relationship with them) that they may have a light fingered staff member in the midst

This has happened recently too, at Nobles.

Buyer viewed a lot early on. Bought lot, went quite cheap. Purchased lot arrived to buyer missing a bunch of coins. Someone must have light fingered them, thought no one would notice in a bulk lot. Must have been taken early on hence no one bid higher. I don't know if it went further.

I had similar experience at an auction. Viewed coins and could not stay to bid so gave written authorisation to auctioneer to bid for me. Contacted him next day and he gave me a list of successful bids and amount. Transferred payment to his trust account and called to his office following day to pick them up. He produced all my purchases except the one I most desired.
I found out later, talking to someone else who was there, that once people payed they were allowed to pick up their purchases unsupervised and coin/jewellery/other small valuables cabinets were unlocked for the purpose. Talk about amateur hour and an invitation for theft.
This was a mixed goods auction in a country town and auctioneer is a real estate agent (and licensed auctioneer) probably more familiar with property/stock auctions and clearing sales. I haven't been to one of his mixed lot auctions since but I hear procedures have since been tightened up.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

It could pay off these days to take a photo of the chosen lot. Having a copy of the more appealing coins would at least be some sort of a record.
But it it's posted to you then its an honesty system at play

I think the photos provided on auction sites are good enough to be used for identity purposes, and would be easily recognised if and when said item(s) were to make a miraculous appearance somewhere down the track.

IMO missing items might not necessarily always be due to dodgy people at the point of despatch either, it could just as easily be the result of a careless but honest mistake (still dodgy) where the wrong item was sent to the wrong buyer, and that dodgy buyer denies receipt. This scenario would be particularly applicable where a  person had purchased two items, with one of these items upon receipt being found to be incorrect but of higher value.

i have accidentally done that myself and corrected before they took the lots back form the table
