Hi
I'm new :yahoo: Bare with me as I learn my way around as no doubt there is a thread to introduce and I've missed it
I'm somewhat new to numismatics. And yes I do have grandpas and great grandpas collection which I'm sure from what I've viewed online everyone has grandpas collection which is often frowned upon in this day and age ,though mine has not recently been found lying in the shed ,I have never taken too much of an interest in numismatics until recently . So I'm still learning the ins and out about the world of collecting . I'm more interested in pre decimal coins , the Australian Penny in particular as that is mainly what is in the collection I have that I have had for over 20 -30 odd years , however like I said, I've only now taken an interest .
I hope to receive some knowledge getting involved in coin communities . I know a little but not a lot . Will I sell my collection .... who knows . One thing I do know is boy is it a hard task to get involved in things such as forums if your new to the world of numismatics

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Hi Jeff :)
I am sure once I get comfortable I will be the one where everyone thinks " another question "

Lots of threads here for all kinds of collecting, and pre decimals are :good:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

I've been collecting coins for years, but I'm still a newbie. And I'm actually a crappy numismatic.

At this point and time in my life, I don't have the bandwidth to learn the extensive complexities of grading, and trying to determine what constitutes a better investment.

I just collect things which I like. i only like decimals, and prefer complete mint sets. I have been building up American and Aussie collections, as well as proof sets of my birth year from around the world.
I collect weird little oddities and special releases from the Royal Australian Mint, which are destined to cause me grief later in life when I go to sell. (Gold Coast Commonwealth games gold coin?? What was I thinking?!??!?)

I'm not ready to jump in boots and all into the world of numismatics, so will continue pottering along, and learning (slowly) from this site. It's also a great way to hear about events and special open days of the mint. Although sometimes I think we all rush to grab items, which are only of worth to the people who have already bought them. There's a progressively smaller pool of people interested in coins, with the advent of electronic payment.

One piece of advice I read on an American forum which I should heed, but rarely do ... is that you can't collect everything.
