These remind me of the old brass 3d coins.

Yeah, they've been spamming me for months about this.

The bit that gets me is 'the round pound will be demonetised and will cease to be legal tender on 15 October 2017' :dodgy:

That's just plain wrong, IMO. Thank heavens we live in an enlightened country like Oz. ;)

I think it is because there are so many counterfeit one pound coins in circulation.

I suppose collectors will have to get both the 2016 & 2017 versions to keep their collection intact.  I wonder how many will be aware of that.

QuoteWhile the coin enters circulation in 2017, you'll be able to find new £1 coins dated 2016 and 2017 – as production began last year.

Based on the above, I guess I've been sold a dud!

Which item do you think is a dud?  Both appear OK to me.

2016 is the last ROUND pound, the new ones are 12 sided, and  the 2017 set sounds OK as well.

Ahh, it's just the fact that it is being de-monetised.

Some could say it's only worth the metal it's printed on

Thus far, the Royal Mint has minted the new £1 coin each year since 2016. Just recently, 2019-dated have been found in circulation in the UK.

By the way, the Royal Mint has finally updated its ''Circulating Coin Mintage Figures'' web page a few days ago:
