Cashless society by 2020??

I'm doing our bit. My wife got back from a week's holiday on the North Island today.
I gave her $1550 NZ and said enjoy. She only gave me back about $315 so she did pretty well for a week.
She said she bought small things at shops and often dumped coins on the counter asking if they needed change.
Most shopkeepers were thrilled to get some change. Only ended up with about ten dollars worth of coins.

I'll look for you Steve. She didn't have many ten cents. I tossed them in the safe for the next trip in a few years.

Last week shopping I got a shiny new $1 in change and it was 2020.
Its the dictatorial republic of Nieuw Zeelandt remember.

If we even have them in the vault. Numista and even some of our catalogues took ages to erase the mythological 8 million $2 coins dated 2016, which never existed.

Fantasy mintings happen here. Covid meant that many coins ordered were delayed or scrapped as an urban legend went around that covid can be spread by cash and many shops banned cash illegally during the covid lockdowns and this was the era of queueing and spacing like 1944 style rationing for the war effort. Woke left wing governments made the world look like the authoritative control eras of the 1930s and 1940s when the "Wu flu" and "Xi's shot at biological warfare" raged.

This makes me think, China still needs to be punished for creating Covid and trying to control the world but attempting to murder millions with covid as a biological weapon.

Its possible, they were minted in 1992, but dated 1993, or they were thrown back in the pot to make newer dollaz. Mints often keep proofs, "samples", specimens etc of each date for museums and you can't go past crooked or light fingered employees who would know the potential riches of keeping such a piece aside.

On another note, at the Library, a sign bragging they are now cashless and its "cleaner and more convenient for all" is just more anger for me. Basically we got rid of coins to save money and time, if it helps they don't charge fines anymore, but you get charged for new releases, 7 day hires and some Blurays or something.

"most retailers must accept cash for in‑person transactions of $500 or less between 7am and 9pm."

I wonder if fast food stores like https://www.bettysburgers.com.au/ are required to accept cash then? Probably not.
They were refusing cash many years ago. My wife and I stopped by a store to buy some of their overpriced burgers and the girl working there said "no cash". I said "no burgers" and walked out.

Oh, and Steve, those 1992 MoRs dollars were 8000 minted, not 80000.
