Yes the "do not call register" is a load of crap and doesn't work. I just tell them, very politely to F#$@ off

My new phone can recognise "Spam" callers So I don't even bother answering the call

Mobile No.'s(and all Personal Info.for that matter) are out there AJ,as you say they're for sale from people that harvest them and the Dark Web where they're for sale.People with Police,Emergency or Phone Co.s contacts,also the war on terror means all sorts of Govt. Agencies and shady security people have access.
The number one problem for honest people with nothing to hide,which is 90% of the population,is the overseas Call Centres harvesting Info.,there is no way the major Oz.Telco's  can be 100% sure that Personal Customer/Client Info is not leaking from them.
It was happening in Oz. with Debt. collecting Agencies paying Call Centre workers for Info. so god knows whats happening in India or the Philippines.

If it hasn't happened already I wonder how long it will be until ALL our personal info is for sale including medical record..it's just not cricket. Once medical info gets out it could potentially but devastating for anyone trying to get insurance of any sort etc. It's a sad world we now live in

I used to cop a fair number of 'unwanted' calls, so I'm now on the 'do not call' register.

I still get an occasional unsolicited call, & as soon as the other party starts speaking, I interrupt quite loudly asking "Where did you get my number?" and repeating it if necessary.  In most instances they hang up immediately.
