Noticed this die crack across the corner of D in FD on the scarcer dot above bottom scroll London obv. penny. Looks like something going on at the bottom of F and X as well.

:drooling::drooling: nice penny, I've never noticed the fault on the X or F as my eyes always go to the D. Are you getting this slabbed?

Thanks Uni, I managed to catch the old bugger with his cozzies off. Found a tiny spot of green death so gave him a bath in olive oil. As seen by all the fluff  the pic was taken before his rinse in a detergent solution and final flush with demineralised water ;)

Not a chance my little 8 pearler will be swapped. I won't even part with my spares.

hehe from my memory of the dot above London coin pictured in that 1920 penny article, I reckon it would easily be the best known, would appreciate a pic if that's possible.

I see the original Geoff Raynes coin is now in Timbertops collection and top of the wazza.

No doubt the Geoff Raynes coin has changed hands a few times, it was the coin auctioned on behalf of Jon Saxton by Nobles, and now owned by Timbertop. I think the Benchmark coin may have also been the Fenton coin, but different to the Raynes coin.

Basil, nealeffendi may have an idea on the mintage. Last I heard there were just 20 or so known to exist, but there could easily be more out there. The coin wasn't identified until 2003.

Yeah,i had/have a copy of a Pic. of the one found in Perth(2002/3?) but IIRC the Dot was very vague but perhaps i had a bad photo,it should be on my Win 98 or XP Computers,i'll try and find it.

Mister T

Probably only a few thousand made - there's a survey of bulk pennies somewhere and one was found out of a few thousand (I don't remember the exact numbers).

The Geoff Raynes coin became the Jon Saxton coin, back in 2003 I think Raynes wanted $11,000 for it. It was sold cheaply through Nobles (lot 1600 sold for $2400) and purchased by Strand Coins. Strand had it slabbed and had it advertised on its website at $18,500 IIRC in an AU50 slab. Timbertop must have purchased a few coins from Strand (Mark Greville) as he also got the top 1927 Indian that Strand also had. By chance I went past the Strand Arcade this afternoon and Strand Coins is no longer there.
Fentons coin was VF35 and sold for $3200 as lot 3225.
There are only about 20 examples that I know of and after 13 years of searching by many collectors I'm confident that they are rarer than the 1931 Dropped 1 Indian.
Echidna may be correct about them being released in WA as the most likely mint to strike them was Perth (in 1922) with an old unused reverse from Sydney and a fresh obverse die  struck in 1922.
