The lady at the local PO tells me that you can't send currency overseas and can't put coins on the declaration

I find that a bit strange as they go to get graded and coins are bought from overseas.

What do you use as the terminology on the customs declaration for sending coins

I'm a bit puzzled by this

"Numismatic items"  Is what I put on there.
NEVER put "Coins" on the declaration form especially if you are sending to the US :ok:
If the "lady" at the PO doesn't like that then use a different Post Office :)

If you ever have to make a claim with auspost NEVER tell them it's coins or notes as they won't pay you as I found out the hard way even though they say you can send but can't all in the same breath and no one wants to know anything about it  :@ Fair trading sends you to the postal ombudsman and then they say there's nothing they can do and same as seeing your local member so it's all a really bad joke if you ask me and don't worry about asking how the dealers or auction houses do or even the mint or auspost them selves as they all sell coins as it's all secret squirrel stuff :dodgy:

Thanks gang

As already advised "Numismatic Items" is the way to go.

Putting Coins, Collectables or Bullion on the customs declaration is a beacon to the unscrupulous in the Mail system.
Numismatic items is a truthful declaration and unless you are a collector Most people wouldn't have a clue what that means :ok:

I have to put a claim in with the post office, they lost a couple of bullion grade common date shillings out of an envelope (their machinery oh so gently split the sides of the envelope):@ so on the claim form should I say they lost some tokens or what?

Maybe you should have a "Word" with whoever stupidly posted loose coins in a flimsy envelope :ok:

It was a post office approved type of envelope and the shillings were in a part sheet (the PVC type) so it first required the post office to move the contents around enough to pop the shillings out of the slots. Seller probably didn't factor in how roughly the post office treats the mail. Having had a few thousand envelopes posted to me over the years I've seen even a number of bubble padded envelopes with splits from the rough handling.

i guess most don't know what "numismatic" means. Unless they google it and then they know it's valuable.

Anything can be a collectible. A kinder surprise toy is a collectible.

Why not put "customised incontinence pads"? No one will steal that.

Sorry to hear your having trouble with them Neal, yes maybe token and see what happens, it really is very frustrating how rough the post is.
