Sorry, I confused you AS. I did mean it looked like a cud error at the join, though my comment could easily refer to the SD.

Great photo btw Trout!

It does appear that there might be a small cud at that junction.

Maybe trout can get us a nice close up of the area, but not until he's recovered from his op.

This is a blown up image of the area.
I am not sure if it is a cud or just part of the design.
I will look at the other 2 coins a bit later, My arm is giving me gyp at the moment :ok:

Here are the other 2 coins, they are all pretty much the same where the ear touches the body.
So I recon Not a cud :ok:

I have found a small "wrinkle/crease" by the rim on one of my coins.. i only noticed it because there was a weird "dot" on that particular coin. I will get some photos up when i can.

Just received mine today didn't take tooooooo long   :whistle2:
Bought the book as well. Page 20, left hand side down the bottom, on the 5 cent frilled neck lizard. The echidna was was chosen instead on the 5 cent and the lizard for the 1 cent piece. :dodgy: The plats in the opposite page has 3 fingers only on the plaster design.
Bit disappointed no pics of the 10 cent.

coming from rim... anyone know what causes such an imperfection?

No idea on either sorry LC, the rim is interesting and could well be a fault in the die where it's split and now slightly out of alignment and the dot could be anything. Can you tell if the dot is in the metal or has been stamped in

I dont know AJ, it looks like a blemish... is best i can describe. I might have to try to recreate it on another coin.

The dot seems like corrosion to me at a guess.. but i really don't know. Maybe a tiny drop of something got on the coin. Anyone else find dots like these on their 2c coins?

I have tried googling creases or wrinkles on coins but didn't get anywhere. I'm really not knowledgeable enough of the minting process to guess at whats going on with the crease.

Both images of the same coin for what its worth.

ausjack

Mark might have an idea as he's pretty cluey with this sort of thing.

Great photos LC. :good:

I'm leaning towards the rim being a "rim burr", but as AJ said I think Mark would certainly know. There's a thread on one of my coins where Mark provides a link to rim burrs on google.

With regards to the dot, I'm not sure how the coins are packaged (since I didn't get one) but perhaps it's some sort of adhesive that's gone astray?

LooseChange

Thanks for the suggestion of a burr, gave me a new search term to try... pre-strike issue with the planchet could be what caused the end result of a crease appearance.

The packaging is the press-fit sort of capsule common with the coins presented on a card.
