I have been informed this morning from the ladies at the post office that Registered Post envelopes and labels are going up in January 2017. Best to get in early and buy some extras before the price increases.

Over the counter price goes from $3.80 to $3.90 and box of 50 from $160 ($3.20 per label) to $162.50 ($3.25 per).

I would think that the increasing use of the postal system because of the growth of the online purchases that the cost per unit would have actually decreased.
These price hikes have nothing to do with operating cost I would think

They have everything to do with privatisation though. :diablo:

Think you will find mail volumes have fallen significantly. If costs are fixed so you need to raise prices to break even.

You at least have registered post on the western side of the ditch.  Here it's little more than the old Recorded Delivery, it's been watered down so much.

I am not talking general mail here I am talking about parcel post which is what this particular rise affects.
With the advent of the WWW letter post was doomed and yes that is in a steady decline But parcel post is actually booming due to mainly the WWW :ok:

If we are talking registered post -and that is the title of this thread- then that is not applicable to parcels.

But parcels, letters, both registered and ordinary share the same delivery infrastructure and overhead. If letters are down more than parcels goes up.

Most registered post nowdays is probably padded envelopes and other small parcels. I get a few hundred sent to me each year. I've even got one on the way from Trout as we speak.:yahoo:
Trout is right the WWW is responsible both for the death of letters (email) and the boom in parcels from online sales (fleabay, Amazon, Alibaba and most big retailers).

Indefinitely, on previous form. Of course they could change the rules in future but, to date, they have always honoured old stickers.

When they introduced Signature on delivery for parcels instead of registered -cheaper but without the insurance cover -add the insurance cover and it was then more expensive (how unsurprising)- they did continue to honour the registered stickers on parcels for a few months.

AP are making less on the decreasing volume of letters and more on the increasing parcel market. Isn't that why they have split their systems and try and tell you that letters and parcels are 2 different systems so they can justify these increases. It's just a load of BS, we all know it's the one thing -MAIL and they are making a bucketload of cash from it.
