The Specimen Cooks can be found with some quite remarkable toning and I think that the plastic case they are housed in is responsible for this :)
Nice coins Mate :good:

Thanks trout, I'll have to go to the markets in coffs again soon and see what they have as the last time I was there he had about half a dozen.

congratulations then :yahoo::wavemulticolor::sun_bespectacled::thank_you:

I really like the blue one :hi:

Gives it a lot of character how the blue covers the water ripples.

There was only about twenty of these graded after we sent ours in Mate.
Now there are 53 of them and 18 of these made SP68 .
Maybe old mate and his 20,000 put a few of these in for good measure

Consecutive numbers as well, so would they be worth more? Sorry,  :P no I'm not :tease: just funnin.  Very nice coins AJ
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

ausjack

Yes of course that makes them worth more auto and being MY coins inflates the price even more :laugh2:

I've got some NCLT $1 coins that have begun to tone but there is nothing very attractive about them. :scratch_one-s_head:

I am willing to bet that those are the ones in the open ended cardboard jobs like you get with the mint your own coin

Yes I picked through a dealers lot of about 40 specimens in cases, we took home 15 of the better ones that I could see through the scratched cases and sent the best 3 coins to PCGS that graded SP67 and two SP68's.

One of the specimen cases had a little note that read "15-4-70 To Leanne from Grandma and Grandpa Nicholls Not to be spent before 1-1-2000AD"

Yes they're the same at coffs and the boxes are all smokey and scratched so you can hardly see the coins.

This is a subtly toned 1977 50c and is also one of my all time favourite Decimal design.
Finding pleasantly toned copper nickel coins is tough.
The detail on the reverse is amazing :good:
