Hello, guys. Recently I visited RAM and there was a machine that mint a brand new 1$ coin for 3$... They say it is a legal tender, so it is a real coin. What do you think about it? Any numismtatic value?

Pedro

Yes, DD it is a real coin. The same design is used in the 4 x $1 coin 2016 mintmark sets.

I like the design for these dollars.

Over the years the Mint Your Own $1s have attracted a bit of premium on Ebay.

Pedro

The 2016 circulation changeover dollars that are to be released will look like this one as well (minus the mintmark).

No, There are a set of coins 5,10,20,50, $1 and $2 that have various pre decimal designs on the Obverse that have been issued for circulation.
These have been issued as a commemorative of the changeover from a Stirling based currency to the now Decimal system of currency in 1966.
The 5,10,20 and 50 cent coins have already been released and the $1 and $2 coins will be released later in the year.

I will take some images and post them shortly :ok:

The term 'the changeover' was used fifty years ago to communicate the move from pre-decimal currency to what we have today.

No
It is the Sydney Mint design .
I am hoping that there will be a George and the dragon and a Shield design $1 produced, as the dollar coin is about the same size and colour as a Sovereign :)

Nope. I thought they sell only silver and gold coins there... I asked them about some of the colorful 2$, they said they didn't have them
