Hi everyone
I went and voted today
went along to the school where the kids used to go to

waited in a very very long line for over 3/4 of an hour
but did manage to entertain myself with a sausage sandwich, a chocolate weetbix slice and a catch up chat with a woman who I used to work with  (talked about me doing some casual work where she works too) so I might add a job option to the list as well ha ha
also grabbed a raffle ticket as well

grand day out with half the suburb

anyways, got the paperwork
tried to figure out the best way to do it

I reckon they should have how to vote tele lessons while you wait

will turn the tellie on and have an election night Saturday night

They need to make the polling booths twice as wide so you don't have to keep shuffling the senate paper backwards and forwards. Might not be as bad in other states if they don't have so many different groups.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I voted 15 days ago. They had a pre poll voting centre in Parramatta and as I walked past there were all these people handling out How To Vote papers. Had the time to spare so got it over with.
The only problem with voting is that it gives the buggers in Canberra a "mandate" to spend our tax dollars how they want.:@
Should be a box marked "none of the above":winkextra:

Long que, longer paperwork :)

pre polling booth hey ?

next time i will find one!!

JeffH

Or postal. Pick up the papers, vote then post them in prior.

Would be a whole lot easier if you could just log on to MyGov.au and vote there. :)

Yes I pre poled last week as I hate the line up and agree being in NSW the paper was so confusing it wasn't funny and I'm with you Neal and there should be a box "none of the above" and also agree that it doesn't give a "mandate" as I know people that vote one way but don't like some of the other policies so if they put some things to a vote on an individual merit I don't think they get them passed so to say they have the mandate of the people is a bit presumptuous.
A wise person knows there is something to learn from everyone.

Best things about voting - the very pleasant walk in the sunshine and the sausage on a roll. Going through the voting rigmarole - pfft!

i wanna do that!!
how do i get a job on election day?
it looks like fun

It was kind of fun, the day began at 6.30 and I got home at 10pm. The pay is good when you are retired like me but not so much if you work it out on an hourly rate. Being part of the democratic process is fine with me. I did a bit of everything, marking off names in the electoral roll and issue the ballot papers, greeting people in the queue, helping old people get a seat so they could sit down and vote with some dignity.

Making jokes about the "table cloth" while helping to stuff them into the ballot box. At 6pm the doors are shut and the ballots are emptied onto a table, flattened out put into piles and counted. The green papers get a preference distribution to work out the 2 party preferred count and the white ones get a basic count, 95% voted above the line. Overall I think turnout was low because up to 30% pre-poll voters which don't get counted until Tuesday, I believe.

To get a job you just go to the AEC website and register your interest. this was the fourth election I worked on.

Yes, as if I didn't already get enough after 15 hours being there, I watched on TV until midnight. :fie:
