$15 each, and three different bits of packaging? Are they out of their minds?

'Collector' coins are becoming more of a scam by the day, IMO.

It looks like there's only one coin & three different cards, one for each athlete from a particular sport,

I am so very glad that the 2015 ABC coins of 2015 cured me of the stupid and mindless habit of buying every single 25mm dollar coin that was produced by RAM, Otherwise I would be adding this spectacularly uninspiring lot of garbage to a diminishingly relevant collection of coins

I consider my $1 set is increasingly relevant as the years pass. Every coin has come from circulation including mint set years and NCLT.
Except for a few of the non-circulation issues they are in the XF+ to UNC range.
I have never bought a $1 coin from the RAM.

This keeps me happy and I am now amassing quite a few different error coins as well.

I am singularly unimpressed by the boxing kangaroo design -looks too much like a novelty 'coin' sold by a souvenir shop. Maybe these are "kiddybait" coins. My 5 year old grandson is most impressed by them (and thinks granny might get him one).

Edit
The playschool coins might have started a kiddybait revolution.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Called in at "Colonial Coins & Medals" in Brisbane today. They are a well respected coin dealer in the CBD. They had just got in the two Western Front 50 cent coins and the Olympic $1 coin.

I wanted one of each coin. No problem with the 50 cent coins, but they would not sell me one of the Olympic coins. As you all know there are three different versions of the packaging all containing exactly the same coin. They would only sell all three versions together! WTF?

Despite the fact I have bought heaps of stuff from them in the past they would not budge. I could not believe it. They were adamant that these coins are a set to be sold together. I said that is crap and declined to buy them. They have now lost me as a customer.

So if you want just one of these coins don't bother going to "Colonial Coins & Medals"

So, we need a #BoycottCoinDealers hashtag too now? :)

Maybe Colonial Coins have been afflicted with the dreaded "Packyboxitis" virus :laugh2:
If you want just a single coin they are available from the RAM shop and many more of the online dealers have them as well :ok:

Hi Trout .... Yes I know i can get "one" elsewhere but i thought it was ridiculous to try to force someone to buy all three bits of cardboard. I was in the shop with cash in hand and they were trying to blackmail me, an existing good customer of theirs to buy extra stuff i don't want. Bunch of Pricks.

I was in at VP Coins yesterday and Vic was keen to sell me one or more if I wanted, but I had no want to :yahoo: If you're still looking for one I'm sure he will oblige.

I called in at VP yesterday and picked up one of these coins. No requirement to buy three of them. All good.

When i got home and had a look at what i got though i was disapointed in the way they have been packaged. The coin is pressed into a round plastic frame. The obverse of the coin is open to the elements. The plastic frame has two halves that appear to be glued together. Some of the glue has squeezed out on the inside of the frame and has stuck on the rim and part of the reverse of the coin.

Because of this it is almost impossible to remove the coin from the cheap plastic rim. Eventually i managed to get the coin out but it had glue on it. I cleaned the glue off as best as i could but it is not the same as getting an untouched UNC coin.

Pretty poor form by the RAM on this one.

Cheers Mike
