Firstly this is a Specimen Coin that lived in one of those plastic cases with the red coin holder inside.
This coin holder was the cause of the pitting and corrosion on the left hand side of the reverse.
There is NO way in the World that this coin is a 68.

Yes I doubt very much if you resubmitted it to get it SP attributed it wouldn't get 68 so lave it as it is :winkextra:

I didn't "vet" this coin properly before I sent it to PCGS and if I had noticed that corrosion I would not have sent it.
That being said PCGS should have "Boddybagged" this as details environmental damage and most certainly NOT given it a 68 grade as they have.
The corrosion is quite noticeable and I should have spotted it but I just chucked 4 coins onto the submission in a hurry to fill it out a bit.
I will have to crack this out when it gets here and chuck the coin into my change jar because there is NO way I would sell this and try to pass it off as a MS68 coin.

You pay PCGS for a service and they offer a guarantee. Is the coin in transit, if not why not ask them about it? Why not ask them anyway although you must be just about at your wits end by now.

Hi Trout

I guess we all stick to PCGS because such grade is exception and in 99% cases it coin like this won't get MS68.

But it is what it is, high grade nice result :yahoo:

Did you just get your results? how long you have been waiting? i have a batch with pcgs with their received date 01/06/2016, so just wondering how long to wait. Probably 1-2 weeks more from my past experience.

I really have just about had it with this Mob.
They are taking forever to do anything and then they get it bloody wrong anyway.
19 coins graded that took 2 1/2 Months 4 attributed wrongly and this MS68 horror.
If all 19 coins went through the same grader then I can't have too much faith in the grades given for this batch .
Just under $800 and a 3 month wait for this crap.

I think pcgs allow spots
I have seen far too many over the years for that not to be the case

it does look specimen - perhaps they though the rims and spots made it less a SP grade but still a high grade MS ?

but just because the coin was in a red case doesn't mean that dealers don't exchange them

I bought some the other day and the dealers said to be careful and check for that having happened as it is quite common

I think that you will find that these "Spots" are actually pits in the metal.
I can tell the difference between a Specimen cook and a standard coin from across the room even with my dodgy old eyes.
and the coins I sent were all defiantly Specimen strikes.
I think I covered this "Pitting" in another thread not long ago regarding the plastic in the red cases these coins were issued in causing this corrosion on the coins :ok:
This coin is defiantly NOT a high grade coin at all it is damaged and as such is only really worth the 50c face value.
I may just send it to AJ so that he can claim against PCGS for wrongly grading the coin and reimburse him for the $280 (Bluesheet value) that he "Paid" for it :diablo::)
We could certainly have some fun with that and it may give us an insight as to how the PCGS guarantee stands up :)

Hi All

Unfortunately my best incused is only MS63. I might put the pic later when I am home. I am looking without any luck for a higher grade incused 50c for some time now.

That's not a bad grade and I dont think there are too many graded higher.I am yet to see evidence of an MS65

:i_agree: the pop report is still a work in progress, I think. A few weeks ago there was an MS67 and 3 x MS66. Some of these may not actually be incused:

There was one MS67 for sure and three MS66.

They are either attributed Incused MS67 to normal 50c and someone pointed it out to them later on or someone send his MS67 to be officially regraded and got it back in a lower grade. I believe the latter is unlikely, so must be the first scenario.

Good to see you posting Incused! :good:
