2016 RAM No. 1

More coloured $2 this time for the Olympics? Seems to be a lot of design on such a little coin........

1c & 2c making a 'special' comeback in their 'normal' guise as well as in Gold & Silver, and I see the 5c is still there too.

Not anything much that's going to get me excited though.

After being the "Poor Relation" for many years the $2 coin has finally gained some popularity with the introduction of the coloured coins and the commemoratives.
Now this series is about to be bombarded with 37 different coins all in one hit .

Maybe in the short term RAM may rake in the shekels but how about the loss in revenue from the new $2 collectors that will undoubtedly cease collecting altogether due to the costs involved in having a complete set.
The ABC $1 coin issues debacle is still fresh in my mind

This is sad news. People have stopped collecting the dollar coins and perhaps picked up $2, this just beats them down with sticks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "beats them down with sticks". Is it because about half the coins listed are $2 aka the RAM has stopped making NCLT $1 coins. If so, won't the same thing happen with NCLT $2 coins? Except a lot of collectors, like me, won't even bother with them in the first place.

Don't get me wrong I was a big fan of the NCLT $1 coins, I have 100s of them but like a lot of others I was forced to give them up due to overkill by the RAM.

I have been quietly collecting the $2 coins for quite a few years now.
Nothing exciting But I have put a nice little collection together with the circ , proof and silver proof issues over the years.
When the first "Poppy" coin came out it added a new level to the collection and with the introduction of the handful of other commemoratives issued over the last three years it made this particular collection a bit more "Interesting" and yet still an affordable option and I have been enjoying putting it together.

Is this sounding all so familiar to the $1 collectors that started their collections in the early 2000's ?

The ABC and the absolute Plethora of other mintmarked and counterstamped coins issued in the last 2 years has destroyed my enjoyment collecting the $1 coins now because it was no longer a case of enjoying putting a few new coins into the set , It become a chore and a burden on my time and finance and to be quite honest  the concepts and designs of the majority of these offerings were pretty "Lame" and "Unworthy" to add to my collection anyway.

I was hoping that the RAM would "Curb" their Greed and not go down the same path as they did with the 25mm dollar coins But it looks like my hopes are about to be dashed with the introduction of these 35 new $2 coins :dash1:

All one has to do is find the money to buy these $2 coins and to find a DANSCO supreme page that will hold them tight.

some 36 $2 coins if my count is correct for the Olympic Games.

Now, will these $2 coins be sold as a collection or sold singularly?

Probably come out carded at $15 each
That's $480 for the coins plus the dansco album .

To what end?

If they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, then there's no point because there's no secondary market.

I've been bleating about this since Australia Post killed much of the Philatelic community off late last century. It was no longer just a matter of buying new stamp issues a few times a year, but a nonstop torrent of ill-considered commemoratives and definitives swapped for no good reason. And even their version of privy marks, with the little markers denoting print runs.

When the RAM started down this same path, I tried to point out that it would not end well. But money is money, and there's always more collectors to replace the ones who walk away in disgust, right? Maybe they're realised that's not so, and they're trying to dig up a fresh crop of mugs after so many gave up on $1 coins.

Me, I haven't regarded NCLT as 'real' coins in a long time. Proper coins circulate, or at least are intended to, and are released at face value. I may pick up the odd item that I find interesting, but I've had a gutful of granny-bait, and I won't touch this rubbish with a barge-pole.
