Ok I have half a dozen of the Changeover empty folders that RAM handed out last year and I am thinking of cherrypicking a few of my mint "Baggies" to fill them with choice coins as gifts.
The coins in the little baggies look to be in a lot better condition than the coins in the 2016 RAM Mint sets as well.
The only problem with is that the coins will tarnish over time pretty much the same way that coins do in the Dansco push in albums.
Is there some way to seal these in mylar to prevent this ?
I have tried using my vacuum sealer But the results are pretty "ordinary" as the plastic is pretty thick and bulky.

Is there a thread on how to stop coins from tarnishing? No matter how hard I try, the aluminium bronze coins always seem to change colour after a year or two. :dash1:

If you are talking about circulated coins then I would imagine that the damage has already been done due to people handling the coins.
With uncirculated coins that come from rolls or bags or even the NCLT carded coins putting them into heat sealed saflips or 2x2's will measurably slow down the toning process on these coins.
The NCLT carded coins that have the open ended pocket that holds the coins are notorious for toning the coins and putting these into saflips or 2x2's is a good method of preserving the coins integrity and you can always keep the card as removing the coin doesn't damage it.

What do you do with the RAM bags? I always leave my coins in the bags because I think they'll be worth more if I try to sell them, but judging by the look of the coloured $2 coins I bought back in 2015, I'm not so sure now. Do you think I should take them out of the bags and put them in 2x2s to stop them from tarnishing? :(

I have vacuum sealed quite a few of these and I have No idea as to what the long term effects of doing this is But as the bags are Not air tight I think that it is at least worth a try :ok:
After being vacuum sealed not only are the coins protected from the air But they are also held firmly in place so that they wont bag up any further as well.

Has anyone found any $1 in circulation yet?
I still have not found any.

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I think that the $1 are thought of as a low mintage and are being hoarded.
I can't remember what the mintage is for these on the last RAM report but normally we don't find out what the actual mintage is for another couple of years.

Possibly. I think it's much more likely that they're behind schedule for these, due to the need to make both the Standard and the ANZAC coins as well. They also spent a lot of time making the coloured $2 coins for Wollies, so I'd be inclined to wait another 6-9 months before making a final judgement about their mintage.

I think it's very unlikely that they're being hoarded, because most hoarders would have bought them straight from the mint. Chances are, they're sitting at the back of an Armaguard depot somewhere, waiting to be released into circulation. ;)

Another possibility is that they're still minting them, and will make them available later this year.

Seeing as I have quite a Swag load of the changeover baggies due to me tagging them onto my various orders from RAM I am happy to share some of them at face value But lets wait a couple more months to see what ends up out and about in the wild before I get too hasty.

I just had a look at my latest order from RAM and they have the little folder on the order list as well as the bag of 50c coins.
I wonder if that is a typo or they are still sending these with the 50c baggies as they did at the start of all this?

Mate I am still having the same problem high humidity really has a detrimental effect on coins. Some of this might help the issue you are having with coins toning.
