I was just looking at the mint website and surprised to see some changes to its layout.

I think it looks more modern but I was used to the old version. I think some time will be required to let it settle in.

What are your thoughts on this?

I had a look this morning and it took a while to figure it out.
I like the old sight as I new where to go to look for things.

Looks OK in general although the front page is now more cumbersome (more scrolling required than previous version - OK I'm lazy). Probably more informative eg in relation to coin production.

I presume they have cut and pasted the coin mintages from the previous version so that the errors that were in there will be carried forward. Will need to have a better look at those.

shopping takes you straight to the old layout

I haven't used it enough times to notice any real difference.

Looks quite smart except for the virtually unreadable font in parts.

Another organisation subscribing to the "change equals progress" syndrome. In the words of the song "It Ain't Necessarily So". (This is often a result of someone in the organisation trying to justify their existence -and, if they are cunning, making themselves indispensable by being the only one to know how to administer the changes.)"  What, me cynical! Never....well maybe just a little bit.

I subscribe to the maxim "If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It". And if it is broke just fix the broken bit -don't change evrything just because you can.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Jeff, I could not agree more. I've seen so many things broken by idiots in the past and then replaced with an even worse solution. As you've said, often done purely to justify their existence, not for efficiency or accuracy. Out the window with the basic Doctrines of Consistency and Timeliness.

EDIT: Please note that my comments are purely a general support of Jeff's "change equals progress syndrome", "justify their existence" and "making themselves indispensable" statements all of which ring very true with a lot of system change I have experienced in the past 34 years of professional IT work.

With regard to the latest change by the RAM, I only use the site to check the annual mintages and all they appear to have done is change for change sake as Jeff indicated. (Interestingly they have the $1 2015 MOR coin appearing in their list before the $1 2014 Anzac). That and breaking the favourite link I had to the annual reports. Not that it took too long to find the new link with the reports and save a new link. To me the new gold hyperlink text doesn't really stand out when quickly glancing at a page.

I think it's fine, nice and fresh looking. The RAM have used our idea for their window icon.  Theirs is better than ours :-/

what??? vertical scroll is all the rage.

Mister T

Some old links seem to be broken.
The layout on http://www.ramint.gov.au/fifty-cents isn't perfect either.

Didn't take me long to find broken images, they need a better proof reader. How many mistakes would I find if I really looked for them?

Thr pages to see mintages do not work on a phone
Eg http://www.ramint.gov.au/one-dollar
The mintage figures are off the right side of the screen and the page cannot be scrolled across to see them, or zoomed out to see them
