I had a 1927 Indian re-attributed and its now disappeared from my registry and cant be added.

email them and ask them to sort it out, they are normally pretty good with this :good:

Sorry for going slightly off track but still on track as I have a 1979 double bar slabbed and they aren't recognised on the pop report either and neither is the 1980 and I bet there's a lot more coins as well so their pop report like so many other things is all wrong :(

Here's a pic and you can see the double bar

I thought I did pretty well getting this from circulation over 20 years after it was minted :)

PCGS have been contacted about the population report and the die designations.
We have also suggested that there be a (normal) penny set and a "penny with major varieties" set.

In regard to pennies, what is normal and what are "major varieties"? Maybe a standard or basic set with about 75 - 80 coins that remains constant. Any new types get added to the varieties set which could end up bigger than the standard set.

Here here (I second that).
The major varieties penny set shouldn't be limited to what is/isn't included. It could be whatever penny for each year/mint takes your fancy. For example I have several 1925 pennies and I might choose a spur 1925 over a Q 1925 or a thin leg 1925.
Maybe even they should have a pennies error set or a Commonwealth silver errors set (of the regular Commonwealth silver I have 20 out of 29 in my set registry but of the errors I have enough to fill about 10 of the 29 slots). Clips, double clips, triple clips, elliptical clips, double strikes, broad strikes etc etc. You could go for the highest points or go for the most WOW errors (I have a single clip shilling that might grade higher than my triple clip but my eye always favours the triple).

First however let PCGS fix up their errors before we get to list ours.

I'm thinking the major varieties emu666 is referring to would be the known obverse and reverse die combinations and mint mark rarities. Maybe there is a case for some of the other well known varieties to be included, but I don't like the idea of an open ended list for varieties if it meant all manner of cracks and cuds etc were included, it would become a dogs breakfast. IMHO leave those for Ian McConnelly's book.

Is it possible for someone at the pointy end of this subject to describe what a list of major varieties would look like.
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

My guess is that PCGS will do exactly the same thing as what they have done with US Cents:
They will create a new set called:
Australian Pennies with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1911-1964)
The composition will be normal strikes plus major varieties.

They seem to be keen on double dies and repunched dates so perhaps that is what we will see in there...
Perhaps we will be using the terms DDOs and RPDs in the near future.

Dr Paul Holland published a good list of what the die pairings are for the penny. Ditto the (late) Jon Saxton (go to Triton.VG to see his effort).
PCGS has already included non die pair varieties (like the 1925 thin leg.).

The problem is that PCGS are not using the good work that Paul and Jon did, instead using they are using a  system that formerly was only recognised in the Strand Arcade.
I would urge anyone who is bothered by this to contact PCGS also.

A suggestion was made that there is a need to create a new set (at least):
Australian Pennies with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1911-1964)

PCGS:
"The Australian Penny sets include major varieties. At this time, it would be redundant and we would not create a separate major variety set. As new varieties are graded, they can also be added."

your coin?
can you get them to change it before they send it back?

That one is not mine Robbie.

This one is mine though and it was graded very recently.
If they can get the attribution on my 1920 dot above Indian right then why not another 1920 dot above Indian ?
Something is wrong at PCGS...
