Cool, could I go back to ausjack please Mark, thanks mate.

Now Kel,

Click on "user CP" right up the top of the page.

Now everythings in the middle on the left side under "edit profile", click on edit profile it's self and this is where you go to "custom user title" on the right and this is where you put things like my demi god in.

Then click "change avatar" and add your pic here :)

And finally click "change signature" and this is where you put your statement down the bottom of your posts.

Hope that's not to confusing and helps a little :)

Constantinos Armatas

Hi every one.
New to all of this. I have inherited a coin collection from dad collecting over 50 years. Found out that I need to get educated enough to be able to do something with it, so I am starting here. I have lots of pennies, half pennies, florins just to name a few. But I don't know which one/what to look for. Have an idea about different grades, but that's it so far.
ADVISE???
P.S. How to I change my user name? I used my my full name!!!

Mister T

Don't try and clean them first of all.
Tell us what years you have and post a few pictures. Was your dad a keen collector? Did he spend money on coins or did he just get them from change?

If you send a message to someone with a pink or green name at https://www.australian-coins.net/showteam.php they should be able to change your name.

Get a coin catalogue such as Renniks or McDonalds (both under $40) to get an idea of what years are scarcer than others and a rough guide to values. Don't clean or polish your coins as that ruins them (and cuts their value greatly). Don't store your coins in PVC and avoid cardboard albums and for anything half decent you should invest in inert storage methods (our site host sells such things as Saflips at The Purple Penny and is very good to deal with). Take baby steps at first until you know more about the hobby.

I might be able to change your user name, but no guarantees. What would you like it changed to?

Hullo Con!
Don't worry about using your full name, i'm Fred and you are Con.
As Neal says take it very slow.
Do the catalogue thing and get aquainted with the whole collection.
The McDonalds catelouge has a huge amount of information about coins and gives you an insight into the world of coins, I recommend that. A couple of year old cat will be fine. Read it very slowly and take it all in.
Make lists of the coins in groups of halfpenny, penny, 3d, 6d, 1/- , 2/- and list by date.
To start off with you will only be able to identify by the date, the fine details that make the difference between a coin being worth $1 or $1000 have to be learnt. After a while you will find out about die types and varieties.
There is just so much that older collectors take for granted about handling coins you will have to learn.
If the coins are all circulated you can pretty much handle them to look at, if they look very shiny and are already wrapped up or in some sort of holder they may be a good grade and don't handle them so you leave finger marks!!
Good Luck.
Fred.
