Hello,

I have been away on a trip, I was wondering who else like the outdoors ? Any good tips to share ? What do you eat and how do you go about cooking it ?

My first choice in meals is Burgers. It is close to a balanced meal, and the only washing up after is a set of tongs. I dont mean fast food type though, a nice cut of meat, bacon cheese and a good salad. I get minute steaks with smokey barby flavour. Good ham steaks, chicken rissoles are another. For a quick picnic lunch, smoked salmon with some avocado. There are many extra flavours you can add, Mango chutney is nice with any white meat. Seeded mustard goes well with steak, and I dont mind a few sun dried tomatoes. You need to balance things though, so the flavours dont compete. There are many salads you can buy in a tub or packet.

For serious trips, where light weight is important freeze dried meals are the go. Add hot water and you are done. Really nice, but not cheap.

Now an easy spicy meal, Stage dynamite hot over a plate of home brand corn chips. Add some grated cheese. Sour cream if you wish.

You need an easy meal which tastes good, some are masters cooking outdoors which is good but I want a nice meal that wont go wrong.

Bought myself a new truck this year but have only been camping once so far.Should get out more like I
did 30 years ago but always too busy.Back then we tanked up on wild redclaw crayfish and went camping at
least once a month.Still have my primus cooker and lamp from back then.Ah those were the days

Hello,

I have camped in every state and territory, used to go each weekend even in the middle of winter in the snow. I loved Primus, still have many things. They were great quality, and you could buy anything as spare parts. I kept seals, jets and O rings. All of my cylinders would be out of date now. Things change, and now LED lights are the go. I like to cook on a fire, but the cheap Butane cooker are a good back up. I have introduced a number of people to camping, it is a bit of a leveler for all. I also love my Trangia.
