I actually have quite a few kilos of pennies unchecked for varieties and just picked clean by me of key dates (eg 25,46 uncirc early dates etc) I haven't got around to getting a penny variety book and going through them yet. with a baby on the way I cant see myself doing it any time soon either.

trouble with the varieties is that many of the books don't have photos anyways
but the old fred lever book is great for actual die varieties and he now has a lot of small photos in his book
usually can get it through prospect coins in Sydney and their postage is fast and reasonable

the die varieties command more $$ over good old errors

I am old...... For someone who knows everything you will need a 20 YO Uni student though. Anyway... It may be as simple as a paperweight, or a wax seal that was never finished. Many people put interesting things on their desks, like a strange shaped rock from a holiday. It may be  a random item that has been engraved rather than " something " as such. An ore sample given by a lover ? In the end you may have to " decide " what it is yourself.

Will a 19 yo uni student do? Haha. If not give me exactly a month and I can fit the bill perfectly.

Anyway are you sure it is 9ct gold? When I first saw the stamp on the side I thought .900 fine?
