OK I have always used CD's for my music in the car.
I have just purchased an MP4 player and have absolutely NO idea how to transfer the music off my cd's from my laptop to the player.
Can someone give me directions on how to do this please

Most of the media players use USB or USB Mini cable to transfer the files.
Plugged in, Windows should recorgnise the device as a detachable drive.
It could be as simple as just copying your MP3's across.
BUT your device may require the files be allocated IT's way.
I'm afraid you will need to read the User manual of your device.

haha I have the 2cellos disk in my car, it plays on a happy loop, I have not got bored of it yet and I find it relaxing, the car has all the smart options but im not to sure I want to plug any devices into it yet, its already remembers what part of the song it stoped on when you turn the engine off, and when you put your key in the ignition it turns on and plays from that spot.
After I figured out dash cam, I think sat nav would be the next thing, tho im not traveling distances at the moment, and ive seen smart phones can do that now days too, I really don't want to move with technology, but they are kinda forcing you to have all the tec stuff now days, 2016 is the cut off date my service provider changes, then I don't have a choice, then anyone can track where I am to the metre, no privacy now days

MP3 is audio. MP4 is video.

Easiest way is to grab iTunes if you don't already have it, and let it rip all the tracks into its library for you. Then you will find the tracks organised by artist and album (don't ask me where they are exactly, I don't DO windoze, so have no clue).

Just drag and drop the files across to the player. Depending on what it is, and how smart it is, you might be able to drag whole folders rather than loose files.

I'm guessing you didn't buy an iPod like you should've, right?

Maybe I'm a little old fashioned -I still play discs in my car. Have an in dash Radio/CD that also plays MP3s. So load up a blank disc with MP3 tracks and (depending on bit rate) have around 10 hours of music per disc.
The player also has a USB socket so sometimes I load up a USB stick too -several time more songs on one of those. Select random play and swap discs/sticks after I think "gee I heard that song a few times recently" -usually that is about every one to two months.
Works for me.

Of course I could still play normal CDs but why bother with less than an hour of music before disc needs changing.

[Remember cassettes and the streams of tape you would often see discarded beside the road. I can even dimly recall 8 track tape cartridges. And the crappy 3 watt amplifiers and tiny, paper cone speakers {bass, what's that?}. How things have changed for the better.]
