So, can anyone do this or do Downies have special permission?

Why did they think such an iconic coin needed "improving"?

Suggests a degree of opportunism to come up with another way to improve their sales.

Gee I should dip my old crappy one's and jump on the band wagon :mocking: Yeah as if I would, I like mine just the way they are :)

Don't Laugh But I actually bought a Gold plated Canberra a few years ago as a "Curiosity",
I think I paid $30-$40 for it probably because there was more than one idiot (Me) bidding on it at the time
The "Host" coin however wasn't one of these worn out coins imaged in the Downies  ad It looks to have been an EF-AU coin before it was Bastardised.

I've been photographing and cataloging some coins and noticed some serious die cracks in this one. From the top of the "I" in GEORGIVS to the "MP" in IMP. Not sure  how well they all show up, still need some practice with the photography. I'm guessing this die was on its last legs.

Die cracks on the obverse of these coins is quite a common occurrence.

As much as I Love that design the Tuvalu on the obverse just isn't right :(
There are 2 million genuine Canberra's out there that hold far more appeal than that horror and they can be had for a lot less than $525 + postage :good:

I would imagine that most of us would Love to have a Proof Canberra in our collections But there is only a tiny minority of collectors with that sort of disposable income available
A very nice coin But $29,500.00 is a small fortune to most of us myself included So it is a case of Look but don't Touch for this little black duck I am afraid :ok:

Hypothetical question.
If I ever acquired one (extremely unlikely) then I would consider the options. I am thinking, regardless of packaging, a safe deposit box -but then you just can't grab it and admire it anytime you feel like doing so.

If it was graded and encapsulated by either PCGS or NGC it would be safe from damage.
If I had to use a safety deposit box to keep my coins safe I would Never have started collecting, It would Spoil the experience :ok:
