Hi all, I just joined yesterday and thought I would say hello! Im over in Adelaide, and an occasional long-time coin collector. For some reason Im a sucker for silver coins, especially when they have a beautiful patina. Hence Im attaching pics of one of my favourites. I just love the rosy patina. I thought it was in pretty decent shape too till I came on the forum and seen some of yours with three steps visible!

Cheers, AxeMan.

Welcome to the forum and nice to see a newcomer jump into posting.

You should be trout's new best friend by making your first post a '27 florin.

Welcome from myself as well,i've taken a renewed interest in these florins the last couple of years as their value rose on Ebay.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! Any idea what my Canberra Florin would grade? I need to get a sense of grading, so ignorant!

JeffH

I will leave that to the others who might be a little more acquainted with those coins. Meanwhile have a look here for a good guide ANDA guide Grading Commonwealth coins.
If you want a correlation between this grading and the Sheldon 70 point scale just Google "Sheldon scale" -about 11,500,000 matches just now.

From your images I would grade this at EF or AU50, it probably looks better "in hand".
I have a few of these coins ranging from fine to gem uncirculated and to be quite honest some of my best looking coins are in the good EF AU58 grade .
The toning goes from blast white to almost black and just about every colour in-between.
I also have some cleaned and polished ones and even a gold plated Canberra, I like them all :)
I sold a NGC MS65 coin a while ago and regretted doing it, I just bought it back today :yahoo::dance2::)
I think the secret to buying these Canberra Florins (or any other coin for that matter) is not to worry too much about the grade
just get the coin that pleases YOUR eye :good:
Personally I can't help myself I Love them ALL:angel:

A nice bit of blue, lovely florin -I'm a sucker for a nicely toned coin. Myself and Markn (forum admin) are also here in Adelaide.
