It would be lucky to make AU50 as they harshly grade the 1925 pennies in my experience as I
think they were with this one which is a broken N as well

You have the new "trueview" images so this is a recent submission.
Did you specify that this was a broken "N" on your submission Steve?

This is one of the first coins I had graded back in January 2014 and didn't even
know about the Broken N variety

Quote from: 'robbiegal' pid='77415' dateline='1439107064'I wouldn't put that coin into a slab
it has little snippets of corrosion that will require attention over the next few years

I would think the new air tight slabs will stop any further corrosion :good:
just settle the little spots of verdigris before you send it and it might be ok for a few more years then

QuoteI would need to go as an error submission. If you sent it as a normal submission they'd no grade it.
Would I have to send the coin on its own as an error submission or can I tag it along with a normal world economy submission ?
I got my broken "N" coins attributed by putting the description on the submission page and I am wondering if I could do the same with the clipped coin.

Varieties and errors are different.  The broken N is a variety and you can ask for that to be attributed on a normal submission.  Error submissions are completely different, they go on their own form and they are expensive.  If you want the clip attributed then you'd need to send it on an error submission.  As I said I doubt they'd grade it on a normal submission with the clip.

Steve could be right.  I haven't sent one for a while and the last one I sent was at least the equal of the clipped coin and that graded AU53.  Perhaps they've toughened up on them since then.

robbiegal

would it be worth it?
isn't it over $50 for an error designation? - and that might be on top of the pre-decimal grading fee as well??

With such a small mintage I doubt that there would be many clipped coins from this issue, So yes I think the expense is justifiable :ok:

It isn't about the money or the slab  AC :ok:
I personally think this coin is unique and it would be nice to have it attributed as such, it's a collector thing

I wouldn't do it, but trout's motivations are different to mine.

If all my numismatic decisions and purchases were financially based I would give the hobby up, It would boor me to tears.
If I am buying a coin with the view to reselling it then yes if the expense is unjustifiable I wont get it graded.
In the case of this particular coin getting it attributed is purely for my own pleasure, I like many other collectors like to have something that none else has.
I doubt that there would be too many 1925 "Q" type ,Clipped penny coins out there :)

This coin is now on its way to the US.
I put "Q" type and clipped planchet in the Variety part of the submission form, the same way I sent the broken "N" coins in.
It will be interesting to see if it comes back attributed as such, Or it comes back with a details "Damage" grade

I got the result back for this early this morning .
They didn't give it the "Q" type attribution and they didn't note the "Clip" either.
They just graded it XF40BN, that is 5 points higher than what I thought it would grade at which is nice but I am rather disappointed it didn't get the "Q" type attribution.

I am not that worried the clip didn't get noted but that is "Blindingly" obvious and PCGS must have considered it to be a genuine clip otherwise they would have sent the coin back in a "details" slab :ok:

WOOOHOOOO
It Did get the "Clipped Planchet" designation after all :yahoo:

Did you just send the one error coin? I'm scared to ask you how much that cost?

We sent 6 coins in an error submission earlier this year and it ended up costing $106AUD per coin for the grading and shipping.
