We have seen some odd shaped coins over the last few years.

What are your thoughts on the Australia shaped coin

2012 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra - Australian Map Shape

I liked it and have one on display.

Personally, I try to avoid any "gimmicky" shapes, be they maps, guitars, jigsaw puzzle pieces, or what have you. I prefer my coins to at least pretend that they might be a viable circulating monetary object.

First Odd shape I have purchased -  but being an expat
"I still call Australia home"
it is a nice  display and conversation piece
not really a coin
but it could have some future value.

I Like NCLT coins And have quite a few in my collections But the map shaped coins to me are just trinkets and hold no interest for me.
The 1oz Kangaroo round coin makes sense but these map shaped odities are "Out there with the fairies"

Not really my cup of tea.  But I suppose not that unusual given that real money has come in some odd shapes including tiger tongues and canoes, crosses, knives, bullets, and gigantic stone donuts.

I have a small amount of NCLT, and if I have any PM stuff, it's because I didn't know that 's what it was when I bought it.

I prefer coins that were actually designed for circulation, which is exactly where nearly all my coins came from.  The only NCLT stuff I buy now are the MM $1's, but I don't have all of them and that doesn't bother me too much. Got lots of spares to dispose of.

I used to collect PNC's but gave them up as there's too many of them being released. I plan to get rid of most of the one's I've got, if not all.

Here's a curveball, I don't collect the 50c series so thankfully I don't have to answer this question for myself.

The Tetra-decagon 2012 50c Year of the Dragon is the same as a standard coin in every other way except instead of 12 sides it has 14!!

So does it fit in your 50c collection or not? Is close enough good enough or is it a black sheep?

To be anything other than a novelty in my collection I want my coins to resemble something that could possibly circulate. We're never going to see the day that an Australian map circulates and i doubt there will be a day that i buy one.
