As a 27yr yr old with a 15yr old brain i drove a HQ station wagon from Coffs Harbour to Western Sydney in the rain without window wipers as the motor ceased up and i only had enough money for fuel, beer and smokes. Beer + smokes where first priority .

Not surprising really.
Things have come a long way in the last 50 years.

Little Uni is absolutely mad on Civics, he has 7 ...... which includes his latest VTi SIR model (japanese). All the others are EKs. Great little cars, go like a rocket and nicely engineered.

In 50years time there will still be plenty of GT falcons around but you wont see any crappy rice burner Honda Civics.. No sweater sound than a 351ci small block at full cry...Civics sound like dads victa lawnmower...

My 79 series Landcruiser diesel V8 with its 5in stainless exhaust sounds pretty sweet at full roar as well

Many months ago I mentioned here my plan to upgrade the wheels and tyres on my old Hilux. Well when I priced suitable tyres for the wheels I wanted I got a big shock -total cost of the exercise was going to be in excess of $1200; that's about half the value of the vehicle.
So I came up with a plan B
•Find a good set of Falcon wheels -they are a straight bolt on to 2WD Hilux- and clean them up and paint them. I already had a few lying around anyway. The extras cost me $10 each.
•Keep an eye out for suitable tyres, with appropriate load rating, going cheap. Eventually found a set of new Pirelli van tyres at a very good price. Stock clearance of, I suspect, a recently superceded model.
•Time wasn't a factor as the tyres I had still had plenty of life in them.

Now done (see before and after pictures following).
The final cost was $700 (5 wheels and tyres). Then I lashed out and treated them to a set of trim rings, centre caps and wheel nuts with my "savings". I sold the old wheels and tyres which paid half the cost of the 'bling'.

Before

After

Who need a selfie stick with these centre caps?

And a better safe than sorry measure. Google it if you don't know what a hub centric ring is.

Now it's got those beaut new tyres does it go faster Jeff?

Performance still best described as "sluggish". Maybe I should put a stripe on it or paint it red -those are reputed to enhance performance.
