oh my florin

Hey everyone

Was just wondering who else collects ancients and shillings on this forum and realised we don't actually know a lot about each others specific collecting areas and goals. So thought I would create this thread so we can all share them and perhaps find people who also share areas and goals.

Personally I am collecting Macedonian Ancients as well as Australian Shillings which I enjoy because you can look for a larger number of coins at once.

My primary goal is to assemble the largest known collection of Macedonian coins which at the moment is held by the Macedonian National Museum at over 16000 coins. Pretty lofty I agree but I live by the motto of aiming for the possible but achieving the impossible.

My secondary goal is to assemble a collection of the finest known Australian Shillings. Again unlikely but worth a shot.

My main focus ATM is rare decimals and high grade George V and if they aren't worth slabbing then I sell them off and put the money back into something that is
It\'s not about who you know it\'s about what you know

My collecting is somewhat out of focus at the moment with the way RAM is producing garbage coins.
I was "Right Into" my decimals until a year or so ago so I only have my Proclamation coins and my Indian coins to get me excited at the moment.
I would LOVE to get a high quality set of pre decimals But unless I win big on lotto that just aint going to happen .
I'm in "Limbo" at the moment But all that can change in a heartbeat if I find some other coin series that sparks my interest.
Aim well to enjoy life. You only get One shot at it.

I'm currently focusing on my decimated collection.

I did dearly love my predecimated collection but tough titties.

One day I'll get there .......... again .......

I collect aussie pre-decimal pennies and halfpennies for their colours

ho hum not flash but I am truly dedicated to the cause

give me a full red and it's sort of 'oh yawn' material  ha ha

I don't collect for investment so most of my coins are worth next to nicks

ausproofs

I am mainly concentrating on 1955-1963 pre decimal proofs, 6D and Shillings.

At one point I was collecting all types of Aussie pre decimal coins, but soon figured out I was getting bankrupt sooner than expected
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

Mister T

Circulating coins of Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain and various other countries in the Commonwealth.
I don't concentrate on any specific thing in all of that.

Pre Decimal varieties and errors.!  :derisive:

autocoupler

Penny varieties at the moment but starting to wane a little.

The idea was to get them in as high a grade as the pockets would allow, but some of the more desirable ones require very deep pockets, unfortunately I'm still wearing boxer shorts.

Looking at the results of the Benchmark sales last night, there's quite a few I'll never have in high grade. :dead_horse:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

I collect all world coins by denomination, by year, by mint. It's a task that I will never complete, but I really enjoy completing a set. This will keep me busy for the rest of my life. Best of all it's relatively cheap.

Winding down my collection of world coins, principally euros, due to the financial realities of aging and dislike of the multitude of coins with enhancements such as color, weird shapes, embedded objects, etc.  It's not fun anymore.

Florins and pre-decimal proofs, occasionally succumb to the odd NCLT 50c.

I get the odd hyperinflation bank note on the side, and notes with interesting historical background like occupations.

I'm currently picking up from where I left it some 20 odd years ago as my dad has introduced coins to my son.

So building my pennies up and also catching any decimal coins that are coming out (mainly 50 cents, $1 and $2).

Coiny Chris

Hello,

I like Decimal, and the different ones they release. I really like Silver proof Coins, and have a few. Mint sets from the Pacific Islands, I think they are some of the best to look at. In Pre Decimal I have most Penny's and Half Penny's and the special Florins, except the Melbourne one. I would like the lot, but they cost more than I am happy to pay. I also have the Olympic $5 set, as well as a number of Aussie Silver Proof sets. I buy what I like to look at, not as an investment. I have had more disposable income of late, but I always save the special Coins I get in change. I have a few coloured $1 Coins, and both Crowns.

From OS I have some from Scandinavia, and HK. I also have a very nice Mint set for my Woman, the year of her birth. No Coins made in Aus that year in the change over.
A rolling Coin gathers no change. C Chris
