I pointed out to some  people today how when David Unaipon was writing an extract from the original manuscript of his Legendary Tales of the Australian Aborigines on the $50.00 note, he misspelt the word IMAGININGS & with a little "^" he added IN above IMAGINGS.
Nobody knew of this error yet two of the people handle money all day long.
It's funny how much money means to most people, but they seem to know so little about it.

Can't say I ever noticed myself. :P

On a somewhat different note... this reminds me how the wrong coat of arms was used for South Australia on all the florins from 1938. Should have been a piping shrike instead of rising sun and three stalks of wheat. The mistake was uncorrected until we have the 50c.

You'd think someone would fix this sometime during the 30 years.

Incorrect spelling (corrected) and -I think this is the salient point- accurately depicted.
Nothing like a little bit of history; warts and all.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

It looks like imagining's[/b]
Is an apostrophe being used correctly?

JeffH

Apostrophe is not really necessary there -that is my opinion only and I wouldn't want to be too nit picking about it.

hang on guys
the correction is appropriate for the writings' of this gentleman's thoughts of his people's present past and future

the message is far more important than the fussing of grammar and syntax (although according to Wikkie - he was pedantic about English!!)

It's not an attack on Mr Unaipon, I was pointing out how little, people know about the thing they love most.
But then if he was that pedantic about English, he should have rewritten it.
Don't get me wrong I quite like it like that.

cheers
I didn't see it as an attack at all
but it made me look up about the man
and to be honest, I don't believe that I have ever even read the text - perhaps I did when it first came out
I probably took more notice back then that a woman was depicted on the other side
they made a point of depicting women for 4 of the 5 new notes
which I did notice!

Stupid vowel shifts changing the way we pronounce our words without spelling updates, I blame Middle English for that, and books. I think they should have an indigenous language written on the note, along with him.
