Hi, was hoping that some one might know what the line is across the coin through her nose cheek ? I dont think it is a scratch.
1980 10 cent out of roll.
Looks like across the whole coin but cant confirm at the rims.
Hope photos good enough.
Appreciate any help George

PS seems to me some cud on neck and field behind neck

A little hard to tell sorry but looks like a scratch sorry George, do you have a loupe because it might, just might be the start of a lamination..but that's pretty slim chance and looks to straight and fine to be a die crack but could also be a die polish so some more pic's might help if it's not too much trouble thanks mate :)

Thanks for that, is it possible for the planchet to be scratched prior to die impression ? or am showing how much I dont know.
It's like the line runs through the high and low sections undisturbed, if you know what I'm trying to say.

Oh well, sorry about that, at least I know now, THANK YOU

Mmm don't be sorry mate because that's a really good question, I suppose so but I think it would probably get ironed/stamped out pretty quick because of the high pressure the dies are used under.

You want to hear stupid question just keep reading my posts :winkextra:

As far as image hosting, there are lots of alternatives out there.

When I'm not using my own site, I currently prefer Imgur.com, mainly because you can get the image easily in full res without the BS that other sites wrap around it. Like so: http://i.imgur.com/q3znjaA.jpg though of course it has the usual options for embedding in various ways, including on here. And you can create albums of course. Like this one: http://imgur.com/a/ZSoJa

Anyway, as far as the coin is concerned...

I would concur that its a scratch. If it were a die scratch, it would be raised, straight, heavier, and probably more than one. Not to mention lots of other examples would be known.

This one wanders all over the coin, which is pretty well worn anyway. Wear tends to make die scratches less obvious, and then there's the way it catches the light, like its a shiny new streak of metal recently exposed.

What this coin does have though is a small strikethrough over on the left under the A. These are fairly common flaws, as bits of crud go through the press with the planchets. You can often find UNC coins with the grey goop still filling the hole, and when removed it leaves that lumpy surface with sharp edges you can see here.

For ten cents, I'd keep it, but don't expect it to ever have any significant value.
