What are you saying.......ours are garbage, for sure.

Sorry but I still like our early pre-decimal notes.  Skill in the engraving sure beats today's system.  This is my 2 bob's worth anyway.

10 years later, they still rock. They circulated so slowly that it was only around 2023/24 we saw the final notes of series 6 disappear.

I stopped gambling in January this year after a big win in December last year and got cashed out in $100 (The only place you can get $100 notes now besides drug dealing) and of the 13 notes, 8 were the older 1999 - 2013 series. They only issued them in 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2008 (I got all but 2005), the new series its mostly 2016's but apparently 2018 and even 2021 have been released.

NZ is almost cashless now, so you hardly see many banknotes at all, the $5 and $10 are nearly worthless and the $50 is the workhorse note now. $100 are very seldom seen or used.

I worked out they have issued around 100 million each of the $5 and $10 (Still just one prefix 2015), about 300 million $20 (2016, 18, 21) and 180 million $50 (2016, 18, 21) and around 25 million $100 notes (16, 18, 21).

The $5 and $10 were released in 2015 and other three in 2016. All our notes back to 1999 are still legal tender, and any note back to 1967 can be redeemed at the Reserve bank in Wellington (They accept sterling era notes too, but these are worth way above face value, even a worn 10 bob is a $10+ note now).

Kate Sheppard was our answer to Edith Cowan and Emmeline Pankhurst. She was born in England in the late 1840s and the portrait of her on the note dates from 1912 when she was in her 60s.

Our notes back to 1966 are legal tender and can still be spent in a shop as far as I know. Not very likely that anyone would though. You'd get more on eBag even in heavily circulated condition.

I am will be bringing a manky $100 from the 1984 (Mawson/Tebbutt) series that I will cash in there, next time I visit. I paid NZ $100 for it.

Also I reckon a lot of your $1 and $2 notes, especially 1983 Johnstone and Fraser $1 and $2 (1985) would still be pretty worthless. But yes my spare Coombs and Wilson $20 is staying in its folder!
