"Most public auction houses start bidding at the highest bid of the highest postal bid, in my experience only Edlins (and Numis Bid) do it properly (start at one step above the 2nd highest bid and bid on behalf of the postal)."

This is fraud in my view. It's not a tender, it's an auction, and postal bidders are entrusting the auction house with the confidentiality of their bids and expect to pay what the market demands, not simply their highest bid!

Aside from the legal aspects, it's bad business in my opinion. If they bid at the highest level of postal bidders then postal bidders will need to keep their bids conservative to avoid paying too much resulting in an overall lower realisation and less income for them.

Not doing the postal bids with them any more but managed to pick this one up
on the live auction today. It will be interesting to see their take on "Full Mint Bloom"
when I finally get it

A real estate agent doing that with proxy bids would be in big trouble. Seems unethical to me and I agree, not a true auction.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Khalil might be right but it doesn't lessen the pain

NZCoinerrors

At least it sounds like your bids worked I was live bidding on some of the error coins (no surprises there i guess) and it said my bids were submitted but not accepted so when I called them they said it was an issue they were trying to fix :-(.  It did work later on for some other lots thank god but missed out on all the error coins

I wish I was rich so I can afford some of them :cray:

Looked at some of the errors and some got a decent dollar and I think I did really well in brissie going off those prices for the mis-strikes :yahoo:

I wonder if whoever got the Johanna lot 1325 would like to swap it for a very very nice 81 model Tojo HJ47, oops hang on a bit, the old girl may be worth more than that :laugh2:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

ausjack

weren't you going to swap that for a 1930 penny auto :laugh2:

Hey:dance2: made it, post 500 :yahoo:

I love the old girl AJ, the utes not bad either:laugh2: Looks like no 1930 pennies or Johanna's at the mo, the daughters both want it. It's a great old thing, I can actually work on it and fix it most times, unlike the chip controlled flyers of today. Come to think of it, old Tojo does have a chip or two left over from the last visit to the rubbish dump. Hmmmm....think I've left an opening there :laugh2:
