Did anyone read the article in CAB mag. about a recent find in Hobart. The coin was a 8 reales from Peru dated 1831, and apparently is proof that these later coins from South America circulated as legal tender during the 1830's in Tasmania.

The article also highlighted a Proclamation by Governor Arthor in 1834 stating that due to a scarcity of coin in the colony, later mintages from Peru, Guatamala etc. be recognised to circulate along side other legal coinage. May even be considered a relevant axtension to the original proclamation of 1800.

Don't quite know what was so revealing about the discovery of this coin if knowledge of the proclamation of 1834 was already out there.

Anyhow, it sure makes for something else to hunt for. Yippee, just snavelled one on ebay dated 1833. :yahoo:

That is interesting :good:
I only started collecting these Proclamation coins about a year ago with absolutely no idea of what was what.
The more I learn about these coin types the more there is to collect.
A Most interesting era to collect and IMHO far more interesting than the Pre decimals :dance2::dance:

Bugger, if they were real I would do a "swapsie" for a lung or a kidney .
How about a few toenail clippings for them :diablo::laugh2:

Hmm...this is just me talking, but to stumble onto a dot above bottom scroll London obverse 1920 penny would be pretty darn interesting. I'm thinking nearly as rare as the 1916 halfpenny mule  and I bet many times rarer than the 1930 penny. But yep, the proclamation series are tops.

Strictly speaking, they are Colonial coins, not part of the 1800 proclamation even though the Spanish dollar was. Having said that, would love to own one of each but resigned to never achieving that. As trout said, way too rich for the pockets.

Entry level dump that I could afford.
I maybe could have gotten one at a lower price with patience but I'm happy with my purchase.

It was on eric's site and had a look at it at the ANDA show and decided to bite the bullet.

Always wanted one and this was a good way of getting one,The only one slabbed so far.:yahoo:

Tried to post larger pics but had a error message saying there was a 200kb limit.Click on pics and they come up a bit larger.

I wish, but out of my price range.

I'm now interested in getting some proclamation coins that I can afford to go with it.

Did someone say 1920 penny:heart: About 18 Dot Above English known (I have a few:yahoo:) so they outnumber the mules and the 1930 English.
I'd hate to collect the dollar and dump, too many different die pairs and every one beyond my means.
