Ok this is what I got from the markets earlier. Yeah I know not so crash hot but they were pretty cheap with the dearest being $2.50 for the florins

Crikey AJ, I reckon you did very very well if the dearest was $2.50!!!!

ausjack

Yep, I think I did ok for me $25 so lucky me old mate Jim loves me and also got another loupe as someone got halfway out the road and remembered :dash1: Just a shame the early mint sets he got recent had a bit of green death around the rims so I had to pass :( But like I've said before if anyone is after anything I will see if i can find it around here if ya like :good:

notice a few of the small errors here and there so a bonus :winkextra:

Nice finds AJ. Silver at less than $2.50 is always a good buy.

rennicks says that the 1944 s florin with the mint mark s having serifs is scarce (the last photo there AJ)

ausjack

cool thanks RG, so I had a look in my renniks but i take it you have the variety book as I couldn't find anything about serifs, does it say how much, thank you :hi:

it's something to do with the writing Kel, I'm still trying to work it out, I might have to get a variety book.

the 1953 penny is a good example and luckily I found a seller who knows what he's doing & how to take photos!
Perth - look at the number 5

Melbourne - look at the number 5 - it has little 'ticks' at the end of the top sideways stroke of the 5

I might be wrong but it looks like a serif 's' to me
the florin collectors might now more about it

autocoupler

Yes, that is the serif. This is timely as I was just going over some 44s florins yesterday. Fred Lever lists 3 varieties, (1) where the "S" just overlaps the design above it, (2) where it is level with the design, (3) where the "S" is noticeably lower than the design above, but makes no mention of a serif "S" being scarce.

Of the four coins I had to look at, one was a number 1 which had a serif, two were number 2 and both had serifs, and one was a number 3 which didn't have a serif.

Fred did mention the 1942 high "S" with a serif as being slightly scarce. I had four of these and none displayed a serif.

I know, info overload  but hope this helps. :)
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!
