Ok just wondering what the go is with Sherwood mint sets as I'm seeing more of the getting around and also 2001 20 coin proof set as I can't find it in the book and tossin up between a normal 01 proof set or one of the 20 coin sets, what way would you go..buy both :)

The coins in the Sherwood mint sets are generally reasonable quality, however as they're not an official set, you can generally get them cheaper than the RAM set for that year. The 20 coin proof set is in the book, page 139 of the 21st edition of the McDonald guide, and page 94 of the Renniks' 49th edition. I'd choose the 20 coin set over the standard one for that year, however getting both is the easiest option!

both nice sets, if I had the $ it would be the 20 coin set

Thanks heaps acrellin, still trying to navigate around it and I found the single prices but there doesn't seem to be a price for the hole set :scratch_one-s_head:

Yeah I might get the 20 coin set AC as I think I'll only live once :winkextra: and it has the main coin I'm after being the proof 50 cent and I can get one for $350 so I'll think a little more :)

Sherwood Numismatics was a mass-marketing coin dealership. It was assimilated by Downies sometime last millennium, as I recall. For some time, Downies was called "Downies and Sherwood", but I think they're back to plain old "Downies" now.

I really think you would be better off getting the RAM products .
The RAM 2001 Proof set is an absolute stunner, you get the 20 cent, 50 cent coins and the $1 in an awesome display box. :good:

What book are you talking about?

If your talking about Greg McDonald, they are listed at the bottom of page 139.

I like the homemade sets
I think they look really creative - like record paper covers, magazines, tickets that have been cut up and stuck together
guess the glue might be questionable
though the description would beg the question - 1969 or 1982?

ausjack

:dash1: yeah that's it sorry, thank you GS didn't read it right but on it now :blush2:

Yeah I'll have all your old boxes trout, I'm sure I can find something to put in them, better send some more capsules as well thanks :laugh2:

Leave it with me RG and I'll make you some :)

I just love this add, taken from feebay.

While we are on topic , I picked up a 2004 proof set with the holographic $1 coin in Perfect shape.
NO crazy off colouring on the obverse. Very happy with this set and will be sending the $1 off to PCGS on the next submission :good:
Pic's will happen tomorrow when I crack the set :) :ok:
