The Mrs has been selling raffle tickets for the local CWA & she found this coin in amongst  the $1's,2002 year of the outback.
Is this a common thing ?

I've seen it before in the $1's and also in the $2's.  I don't know what causes it or what it's called.

I tried to get some answers a while back, to no avail. I was keeping any I found, and had a big bag of $2, but was forced to cash them in recently. :(

I did see a comment by Mark elsewhere referring to metal squeezing up between the dies and collar, and this is probably the cause I would think.

As to whether they have any value... *shrug*

That's exactly what it is.

Thanks for all the replies, So is there a term for this ? if it were vertical it would be a ramstrike but this squeezes out and sorta lays down.

Nevol

I did a bit of a search and found 2 of mine.  I should have heaps of them somewhere. I call them Rim Fold for want of a better term.

$1 2002 O'back Obv Rim Fold

$1 2005 WWII Obv Rim Fold

I've been thinking of them as split rims, because especially on the $2, they look like there's a gap.

you find this effect on most denominations as I'm sure I've posted pic's of this before as I have 5 cent 10 and 20 like it I think and have found the dollar but didn't worry about keeping them

I'm not 100% certain, but I think with the $1's, they're always on the Obv, but I feel I have them on both sides for the $2's.  I'll check it out after I finish my $1 error project.
