Drove for an hour across town this morning to visit our favourite coin dealer and he had a bunch of Indian coins (which I am quite partial to).  Managed to talk him into selling some of them including these four rupees.  Made the two hours of car time worthwhile.

:) I'll keep that in mind AJ.

I have a couple of Indian rupees and am always on the look-out for them but hardly ever see any in the condition I like.  Seeing four nice ones in the same place at the same time was like Christmas morning :)

Yes, he was.  We make that drive a couple dozen times a year and most of the time we leave with nothing.  Nice to have a win.

Stunning coins  Mark :drooling:
Those early Indian coins are great designs and are readily available in good grades. :good:

The Annas but not the rupees.

Pre-1940 Indian coins tend to be more common in small denominations.  The twelfth anna's are easily the most commonly available type, then the quarters.  None of the silver is common in UNC as reflected by the strong prices all graded pre 1940 Indian silver.  Pre 1940 (but more so pre-1920) UNC rupees are scarce.  I'd call these four rupees among only 10 or so pre 1920 UNC rupees I've seen in Australia in the last few years.

Just had another squizz Mark and it seems that you have a duplicate 1911 coin
Are you planning on giving it to PPH or selling it? :)

I don't know yet.  But when I saw the rupees I fell in lust with them and I doubt I'll be letting them out of my sweaty palms for a while.

Given that PPH is sitting over there entering them into the spreadsheet she uses to generate PCGS submissions I think they'll all be going on a vacation.  If any of them end up in the clutches of The Purple Penny afterwards I'll be sure to let you know.
