Oodnadatta is a couple of hours north of Coober Pedy.!! It is home of the famous "Pink Roadhouse". My little sister was stationed there many years back and I have visited a couple of times.!!

Hehe... gotta hand it to them for their sense of humour though.

Closest I got was Woomera and Andamooka. If you head out to Lake Torrens (warning, its only jokingly referred to as a 'road'), you will find a very humourous sign erected by the local fishing club. Keep in mind this is a dry salt lake 99% of the time. I'll have to see if I can find the piccy of it... not sure if it got converted to JPEG while I had the chance. :(

crikey
how do those guys keep cool?

maybe they are just happy to be alive and don't fuss about the other stuff - like dying from heat!!

one of my favourite pub is the lions den hotel in Nth QLD on the way to Cooktown
even when it's stinking hot you can cool down in the back beer garden/pool room
between the sandstone walls and a small fountain it is really cool
I haven't been there for years but really appreciated each visit - especially the one after we'd been stuck for hours in the with 2 blown tyres, 4 kids and 3 chickens (oh no Rob they aren't rosters, yeah right) after leaving my mum's place in Cooktown & heading back to Townsville
but I always always carry heaps of water and food when we travel so at least the basic life's necessities were covered while we were broken down

Robbie , did you see my name on the wall at the lions den ?

when I was there , if you bought a beer you could  write your name

on the wall , that was if you could find the space to write it .. ,, kel ,,
take care because we care ..

Hrm... went out to the garage today to escape the WiFi (don't ask... its a cheat for a MMORPG I play on the iPod), and decided to take a thermometer with me...

52.6°C !!!!!!!!

If I'd had those three chooks with me, we coulda had a roast dinner!

Shortly afterwards, I was cruising down to the post office with icicles forming on my beard... ;)

I got in the car today and it said 49 deg. Got moving and with the wind chill got down to 44 deg. The kids were happy when I stopped at BP On The Run for free slushies. Yes (I dunno if it's everywhere but) On The Run petrol places had free slushies today and I believe tomorrow too here in Adelaide.

The "Pink Roadhouse" has recently changed hands after many years following the death of Adam Plate (owner) in The Targa Adelaide Car Rally in  August 2012.
Mrs Robster dealt with Lyn Plate for many years through Telstra and for anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting the couple it was a memorable experience.!!

Yeah, the Targa style Rally's can be extremely dangerous, once or twice a year competitors in their 50's & 60's doing 150k's + on narrow public roads.Friend competes regulary in the Tassy Targa and he's amazed their isn't more deaths as the skill level just isn't there for half the field.
