I have used "Trout" as my username since I first "Discovered the Internet in the 90's
I can still remember when 'Newsgroups" were the only online buying opertunities, NO ebay,online shops or anything of that nature.
I had a flash new 486 dx66 with 4 meg of ram with one of them flash new cd drives:yahoo:
i am an avid fly fisher so TROUT was an obvious choice for me

About 8 years ago I was registering on a forum, so I took the first letter of my name, 'w', but the name was too short, so I added 2 more but it said the name was in use, wwww was in use too, but wwwww was free and henceforth became my online alias.

Mine is a nickname I invented for myself back in my high school and university days. It's derived from the first letter of my first name and the first two letters of my surname. I chose that rather than my regular initials because my middle name starts with W and "Swa" is both hard to pronounce and doesn't mean anything.

Nowadays, the only people who call me "Sap" in the offline world are my brother and forum people I happen to meet face-to-face.

Edit: Oh, and I added "yx" because this forum doesn't accept three-letter usernames. I used the same extension on the CU forum.
