:dodgy: one thing I hate about the bloody net and that's that I have no idea as to etiquette as it's a bit hard to know when your teaching your self and different people have different ideas, yes some things are a no brainer so lucky for me but others aren't so, like it seems that you don't answer an email or message straight away as it's bad form to some people where as I like to try and get things done so I can get the next thing done so I wish someone would write something somewhere as that would be such a huge help, sorry just thinking as I get in to too much trouble over things I don't even know about but I'm slowly learning :)

h aha
I did a facebook muff up the other night and ended up having all the kids texting and phoning me
cause i'd put that my relationship was 'it's complicated' as I didn't want facebook knowing all about my personal life

well, the kafuffle with the family & even the hubby
it was incredible
apparently 'complicated 'in facebook jargon - means it's in trouble

then I put retired - so away it goes - getting all sorts of congrats e-mails!

I didn't realise that a timeline update told everybody else what i'd selected!

now I can't get retied off the thing
ha ha - so I am a happy working retired!!

HAHAHA sorry to laugh but glad someone else has the same problems I do, I have no idea :laugh2: but slowly working it out..the hard way :dash1:

Facebook, a dangerous place to place details any time.......my advice, DON'T!

I thought the details were just with me but they send a message out to all my friends about my 'update'
anyways, I figured out that I can set some to 'only me' but the relationship one does NOT have any privacy setting

I only use it to keep in touch with the family that is dotted around Australia but yes, there is a lot of information gathering going on for sure

anyways, I live in Normanton and am retired but now I am married  ... (just to keep the peace with the family!)

I thought it meant you were a swinger who went to orgies every night?

Failbook is a massive disaster area, IMO. Not least because the combination of stupid policies and even stupider kids is a recipe for all sorts of abuse and angst. Best avoided entirely, or treated much as you would an anthrax storage facility... very, very carefully. ;)

I kept cancelling my FB account as I think it is best done without. But my wife keeps going to check grandchildren news -if account is accessed within a week of cancelling it is fully restored.
So now I treat it as a "READ ONLY" and never post anything.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

And there's the trap, right there. People use FB because people use FB. Be they family or friends or celebrities or businesses, its the whole lemming thing in action.

Not posting works, but they still get to claim they have 90 bazillion users. Even cancelling accounts doesn't help... I have dead friends who are still on FB, and will be for eternity. :(

I have a dead friend on FB too Fulivo
but I thought his mother& sisters  keep it going as they all keep adding to it
it spooks me a bit actually - i'd prefer to 'unfriend' him but then the mother will unfriend me (forever most likely) - again internet etiquette?

I just use it to keep in touch with the family & a couple of mates - all interstate
anyways, they read my few and far between posts as I caused a stir

not sure about complicated meaning you are a swinger cause they have a choice of "in an open relationship" - i'd never select that one - the one long term and loveable man for the past 28 years is more than a handful for this old coin collector - so married is ok - i'll let that one stay as is and everybody is happy now .... silly duffers

but I still think that keeping things going strong for 28 years is not without it's complications which is how I saw it

I guess it's funny now - but I get this text from my son ... "mum. I read your facebook timeline update and now I am very concerned, I will call you tomorrow" ... the daughter "WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
my sisters ..." reely!!!!!!!"

Mark was just saying yesterday half his Skype friends are dead. Awfully sad really.

It is, very. And its something that nobody has really given any thought to. This current generation will be the first to live their entire lives online, and the digital footprint will be enormous. And zero thought has gone into what happens when you go.

It needs thinking about, and quickly. The status quo, judging from my dear dead mates, is totally unacceptable.

Yeah, they were all young too.  One of them was under 35 and rang me just a week before from the USA as happy as Larry.  His death came out of nowhere.

:( yep there's not many people left that I went to school with these days and I'm only 43 and that's why I've been getting poeples info I like like addresses and phone numbers so if I haven't heard from them for a while I can give them a bell if I'm worried something has happened as I think some people here are really cool and I consider friends :) So yes I've been thinking about it for quite a while ;)

Still trying to work out how to take people and even the meanings of thing like ATM to me was abloody auto tell but now it's at the monent and LOL was lots of love but as things do it all changes but I'm getting there, jesus it too me years to work out these, sorry about the spacing but it will do the proper face if I don't have it :good:   ; )   : )   : D   : /   : P so yeah there's heaps to learn and also try and be a little careful at the same time, it really is a tricky place and so very dishonest and that another thing I really don't like about it 'cause believe it or not but I am a pretty honest bloke, I told you belly..shut ya pie hole :laugh2:

my friends son was just off 21 years and a shock to myself and the family
so it creeps me when his picture keeps showing up on my face-book
he will always be 21 now and that was 3 years ago

a couple of students drowned when the hubby was a tutor at James Cook UNI - overseas students collecting corals who couldn't read the sweeping tides - got caught and drowned
it was a shock to the small biol. sciences school
anyways, one of the Chinese Tutors at the time said to me that there is a Chinese expression
"the distance between life and death is as thin as a sheet of rice paper"
at that time it gave me an understanding of how we can slip through to the other side in a matter of minutes
since then, I have worked in ED, ICU & palliative care and have been with quite a number of patients in their final moments and I have found that the (bitter) sweetness of palliative care is that one has time to prepare for the end and hopefully be medically and socially comforted
whereas, when a person is a young bloke heading out to bring corals back for the research and planning the disco scene for that night, well, it is unbelievable and of course, always resonates uncomfortably somewhere there in my soul
I am sure that your friends' sudden passing does as well
xx
