Silver is a natural antibiotic and it is suppose to be the reason that many richer people remained well in the old days.
They were using silver knives, forks and spoons to eat their meals.

Silver is considered edible in Europe, where it is listed as food additive E174 in the European code. In America, the FDA officially regards silver as inedible and advises that those little balls of silver-coated sugar (dragees) used to decorate cakes be treated as decorative items only and should not be eaten. Silver dragees are illegal to sell in California, but legal in all other states.

Pure silver should be harmless to eat; your stomach acid is primarily hydrochloric acid, which does not react with silver. If you're going to eat silver (or use silver coins in cooking), make sure it's fairly high-purity silver. Sterling is OK, but the .800 and .500 fine coins have too much copper in them to be safe. Cupronickel substitutes are a definite no-no.

From the website in the OP:

QuoteYou can buy pudding packs of sixpence, shillings and tuppence from coin dealers. Try perthmint.com.au.

I like how they treat the Perth Mint as a "coin dealer". But it's true. Perth Mint will indeed sell you a little red bag of "pudding coins", with three threepences and three sixpences in it, for $25. Though I notice that the coins pictured as examples in the Perth bag are .500 fine.

Finally, I think they meant to say "threepences", not "tuppences". A British silver tuppence would be too small to use in food safely without risk of swallowing, and a cartwheel tuppence is not only made of solid copper but is big enough to serve a pudding on.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

They spelt it how people say it. Same like "hapney" for half penny.

Even though they're my denomination of choice, I still call them half pennies or halves :s

It is usually "ha'penny".

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.
