If it's silver and 11.6 grams then it's most likely an Indian Rupee.  I've seen a number of brockages of both Vicky and Edward rupees, must have been something not quite right with the Indian mints in those periods.

Some impressive coins around, and the pictures are exceptional. I only wish I had the time, space and the setup to improve my images.

There are some great errors out there.

Search 20p with no date!
It was 2009 from all the news articles I read :)
Anyway read these: sounds cute and funny
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/jun/29/collectors-seek-20p-coins
Unfortunately the 20p site no longer exists for the 50 pound reward.

Some news articles may be dated 2009, but the coins were supposed to be 2008, the first year of the new rev design for GB coins.

Yes, the news of the existence of the mules first broke in 2008, but was not widely noted upon in the mainstream media. The story re-broke in full force in 2009 because, as mentioned on the Chard Coins information page linked to by Nevol, one of the mass-marketing coin corporations put out saturation advertisements offering to pay 50 pounds each for any that were sold to them.

Ya gotta hand it to the so-called "London Mint Office": they know how to create "buzz".

I took these Papua New Guinea coins above  to the coin club meeting last night and the question came up about where they were minted.

1975 was the first year Papua New Guinea had their own coins and prior to this they used Australian Currency. The Chief Engraver of the Reserve Bank of Australia was at their special ceremony in 1975 indicating we were involved in their new coins and/or notes. The Franklin Mint have been heavily involved in their coin production but is this mainly proof coins?

I am severly lacking in my ACR library of the issues around 1975 when the new PNG coins came in and I can't find any conclusive evidence that we did in fact mint these coins.

Anyone know for sure?
