The SA Philatelic Council is holding the annual 2013 congress in Adelaide on the weekend of October 12 and 13.  There'll be a number of coin and stamp dealers in attendance (including the Purple Penny People) and we think it's free to get in.  So if you're in Adelaide and you're at all interested in stamps or coins then please come along and say hello.

We'll make sure to take some pics and write a report.

To help display our wares at the show PPH and I had the box below made by a local cabinet maker.  I oiled it with some hand tinted walnut oil and put on several coats of beewax and carnauba wax.  After that I put the locks on it and PPH put cut some some underlay and black felt to suit.  We've also put some IKEA LED lights in it to make things brighter.

Right now whichever arm of mine or PPH's that isn't reaching into it :) Was going to put some lengths of Al on pivots but this box is only getting used at this show for now and I don't want to spend any more time on it.  If we end up taking it about more often I'll put some more thought into it.

The really annoying thing about this box is that the glass topped aluminium cases you see at coin shows normally can be bought in the USA fairly easily for about $150 each.  But they can't be had for love or money here in Australia so we were reduced to having something custom made based on drawing I did on a ratty bit of paper.  Then all the effort we had to put into it to make it look presentable.  Very annoying and a reminder of what a small market Australia really is.

best not to have a hinge
that way - you have to hold it open for the customer and then you have to close it and lock it

and anyways
I think it looks classy and non-aluminium ísh
bet it smells nice too!
